Demonstrate Social Responsibility

I demonstrate the belief that all students can learn by unambiguously stating high expectations and then by doing everything within reason to help each student reach these learning objectives to the best of his or her individual ability. Therefore, I differentiate instruction so that each student is both challenged and capable of gaining knowledge appropriately. For students who need extra assistance, I offer scaffolding support in the form of visual aids, larger font, vocabulary word definitions, or other hints that allow the student to better understand. For any student who is able to work above grade level, I offer additional or expanded learning options designed to encourage the student to work well beyond minimum requirements. As students work together in teams, they not only study relevant topics but also learn to cooperate with one another. I engage students with reading assignments which include socially responsible topics such as civil rights, sustainable environmental development, and democratic values. I challenge students to discuss their roles as socially responsible citizens. I recognize students may come from non-traditional or blended families. I welcome all students equally into my classroom. I encourage students to honestly express their views in a socially responsible manner that honors diversity and values individual rights. I advocate both first speech and respect for divergent logical opinions. I promote humane justice by choosing to positively reinforce students’ appropriate behaviors in favor of punishment theming for behaving inappropriately. I try to always set a good example for students by behaving in a socially responsible manner myself. I feel setting a positive example for students is a primary role which a teacher must maintain both inside and outside the
