Meaningful Relationships

Frank is in the early stages of dementia which is getting worse and worse over time, when robot becomes a big role in Frank’s life at the time. Frank becomes fond of the robot because Frank gains trust in the robot. Frank’s son Hunter gives Frank a robot in hopes of helping Frank get back on track with chores and having a better lifestyle. Events between Frank and Robot develop a meaningful relationship. Frank is experiencing dementia, which is where he is often forgetful and confused of events in his life. At the very beginning of the movie, Frank breaks into his own house and when he realizes this he gets a little upset and drops the picture frame. After the visit to the library with robot, the robot tells Frank that if he does not fulfill his duty to help Frank then he will be sent back to the warehouse to have his memory wiped clean, this is where their relationship starts to become meaningful. Frank disagreed with the robot at first but gradually starts to like and tolerate the robot. Frank’s daughter Maddie disapproves of the robot and uses the robot to clean the house. When Frank finds out that Maddie used the robot just to clean, Frank gets upset and tells Maddie that the robot is not a servant and that he is his friend. This moment in the movie shows that his relationship with the robot is meaningful. Robot cares about Frank’s health by preparing his meals and making him go on a fixed schedule to improve his mental and physical health. When the deputies showed up at Frank’s house, Frank does not want to reformat robots memory because if he does, then their time together would be erased. Frank hugs the robot as he tells the robot he knew he had an off switch. It hurt Frank to do that because he was losing his friend and they grew a strong bond over the short time they were
