Delta Plastics, Inc.

Delta Plastics, is a company that designs and manufactures plastic containers for household and kitchen use. The R&D group working for Delta is constantly thinking of new ways to develop, design and produce new plastic materials for the company. The new containers that the R&D group is currently working on are designed to be able to be removed from the oven and immediately stored in the refrigerator if necessary, with no wait time to cool. The group will be looking to see if the new material can stand up to and pass the standard material now utilized at Delta Plastics, Inc. The group will conduct an investigation into how a total quality management program will help them produce this new super plastic material, why and how utilizing a definition of quality makes a difference in the production process of this new material, how defects in the quality dimensions will affect the new product and then give a recommendation as to what the company should do as far as producing this new material.

On Monday September 26 we toured PCPM. I found out they specialize in plastic injection molding and have been in business since 1978. At the beginning of the tour we were informed on the process the plastic goes through from the time it enters the factory in pellets to the time it leaves as a finished product. When we actually toured the factory it was difficult to hear our tour guide but I believe heard him say they add nylon to the plastic for certain molds to make it stronger. Seeing the molding process take place was pretty interesting, by making each mold one at a time PCPM ensures the quality of everything that leaves their warehouse. I missed quite a bit of the middle section of the factory tour because I couldn’t hear but I was especially fond of the new ecoflaps PCPM is producing. That is something I’ve never thought of before and it’s nice to know things like that are made here in Putnam County. What they do at PCPM is a pretty complex operation, with all of the different plastics they have to keep separate and at different temperatures it is quite a task. The variety of products that are made by PCPM must require a lot of skilled management to keep things running smooth.…

We have to do something against the scourge of the plastic industry. First, countries should pass laws that would require all plastic companies to submit an ingredient list that would be highly classified, and if the ingredients were changed or altered, the company would have to notify the countries or pay stiff fines. Next, plastic companies should have higher qualities of skill and ingredients going into the plastic. Finally, since plastic takes such a long time to decompose naturally, recycling awareness should be raised to help the environment and decrease landfill…
