There are two strategies airlines should adopt to improve their chances of being consistently profitable. The first is entering fuel supplier’s industry. In 2011, fuel cost accounted for 32% of the airline industry’s revenue. As fuel prices fluctuate up and down so do airlines’ profit margins. By entering/investing in their supplier’s industry they can exploit low fuel prices and increase their profitability. Delta Airlines used this strategy, investing $150 million in oil refineries and taking over their fuel production (Blockhin, 2015). The second strategy involves creating brand loyalty. As of now consumer’s decision are driving by price rather than brand loyalty. Airlines need to alter their image by enhancing customer experience, creating…

Delta airlines uses branding strategies to address customers’ needs. Delta customers have a busy schedule and that’s is the reason why delta focuses on customer satisfaction to create an easy journey for customers. All people fly airplanes with one main gold in mind, get somewhere fast without any inconvenience. Our assigned organization in Delta airline and two organization researched last paper were Alaska Airlines, Inc (ALK) and Southwest. A competitive advantage is an organization having an advantage over its competition which results in greater sales, margins, and retaining more customers. Competitive advantages can include anywhere from an organizations cost structure, their product and service to customer support. One of competitive advantage that delta has with other two airlines is their employees. Delta believes that their employees are taking the airlines where they only dreamed of through their hard work which is leading to a bright future which includes new ideas and opportunities. . Delta provides their employees with training that consists of emergency equipment, aircraft familiarization, door and window operations; equipment training for certain planes in order to run smooth operations. Another competitive advantage Delta has like their competition is their mergers. Just like their competition Delta’s merger put then over their competition. In 2008 delta merges with Northwest airlines. Delta benefited from this because in 2007 Southwest serves 101.9 million passengers where Delta server 72.9 but with the merger Delta and Northwest combined for over 126 million passengers. Delta has a competitive advantage like their competition because they own thirteen hubs. Delta operates over five thousand flights every day from these hubs. Delta manages the busiest hub at Harsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in terms of passenger and number of takeoffs and landings. In terms of innovation and sustainability one focus for delta should be the age of their planes. Alaska Airlines has next generation of 737s which help them save on operating cost through fuel. Another area where Delta can learn from competitor is in terms of training their employees. Southwest train their employees in a manner so that their planes spend less time…

Looking externally, some of the biggest threats for Delta Airlines include the September 11th terrorist attack and the sluggish worldwide economy. Both the state of the economy as well as the September 11th terrorist attack made downsizing inevitable for Delta. Unfortunately for Delta Airlines, this caused an unexpected loss of knowledge due to the 11,000 employees that left the company after they offered employees a favorable severance package. They have not only experienced a major catastrophe, Delta also has to deal with the loss of knowledge through a downsizing effort because of a struggling economy. Although these threats are major, Delta definitely worked around their obstacles to build a knowledge retention strategy that could improve their…

Delta Technology, Inc is a company based out of Atlanta, Georgia which manages all of Delta's Air Line's information technology solutions, development, and support, including the award winning Delta Nervous System. Although the company is owned by Delta Air Lines it has a whole separate top management team. The current CEO is Shirley Bridges; she oversees 2,000 of Delta Technologies employees. Their mission statement ("Delta Technology exists to enable Delta Air Lines to fully achieve its goals by leveraging technology to create a competitive advantage."), suggests necessity to understand today's ever changing technologies requiring Delta Technology, Inc to exist. They are constantly scanning the environment for changes, especially closely monitoring competitors' use of technology. Considering the complexity of the system used to manage ticket sales, reservations, times, dates, prices, and destinations, Delta Technology is continuously going to be looking for ways to make things more efficient. From 1997 to 2002 Delta invested $1.5 billion on technology innovations alone, bringing making them a leader to other air lines. This investment allowed the ability to buy tickets, check arrival times, quote prices, and check in over the internet. These uses of technology have made things quicker for initial booking of fares, but are only the beginning when it comes to the technologies required for the operation of Delta. When passengers rely on the pilots and ground crews for safety it is in Delta's best interest to go further then the competition to offer customers superior technology to make sure nothing goes wrong, and to detect if there could be a possible failure.…
