Definition Essay: What Does Friendship Mean To You?
What does friendship mean to you? There are myriad meanings of friendships, for example, Google says that friendship means a relationship between friends, however, my definition of friendship is having someone’s back, keeping secrets, having a secret lingo, so no one knows what you are talking about, speaking to each other with your eyes, and laughing at something irrelevant together. Many people have different definitions of friendship, and they probably will not be the same as mine, but they have a right to an opinion. Have you ever been stabbed in the back by a friend, well that turned into your sworn enemy, I have and it sucked? I was friends with this girl since third grade, but when we graduated to middle school, we were both being bullied

True friendship means understanding and knowing how your friend is feeling and what mood they are in by the way they are acting, but no matter how many fights and arguments that you and your friends get into it does not matter because true friendship always prevails.James Miller once said that “A friend is someone who knows you as well or better than you know yourself.”(113). those words could not be any truer. Friendship is something that is forged and made over many years and memories.. For many people they become friends when they are children because they grew up and made memories. The word friend means exactly what it is, just a word. The pure substance behind the word no longer bares any true meaning and feeling behind it. I have learned to limit the use of the word and can only call a select few a true friend. Growing up I thought I was popular because I had so many friends. However little did I know that instead of calling these people friends, I should have substituted the word for acquaintances, or in the future outlook of it all, maybe even enemies. A friend is supposed to be there for you through thick and thin. Friends stick by your side no matter what and have your best interest in hand. There for, these people I considered friends, were not my friends, but bad influences.…

I chose the term friendship but contemplated with choosing the term addiction from the list, in my opinion friendship is much harder to define. I believe everyone has their own version of what friendship is, thus the reason why it is so hard to define. The word “friend” and the suffix “-ship” makes up the word friendship. By definition “friend” means “a person whom you share a bond of mutual affection for”, and “-ship” is just a suffix for nouns. Once added together to create “friendship”, the definition changes to “the state of being a friend” or “a friendly relation or intimacy”.…

Friendship is what makes the world go round. Without friendship, life would be plain, lonely, and boring. Friends are people you can talk to when you have no one that will listen, they are a shoulder you can cry on when you’re all alone. Friends can make you smile when you’re sad and stick up for you when you need them most. There are many different types of friends and it's hard to decide who’s a friend and who isn’t. Sometimes, people think they have new friends, but honestly they don’t. Like true love, you can’t make a friend in a couple minutes. Even if you think you have, that so called “friend” can stab you in the back in a matter of seconds.…

Friendship is a very powerful word. As children are growing up, their parents and family give them a taste of what friendship really is all about. Starting at a young age, it is smart for parents to teach children the significance of friendship. A friend should be someone who tells the other individual when they are doing wrong. They should influence them to do good, give them a shoulder to cry on, and be that person to talk to when sad. Friendships change over time as you move from childhood to adulthood, however, friendship exists in the positive relationships a person builds.…
