Loyalty begins from the moment we encounter a person or thing. Loyalty helps us choose.
When we first enter this world, our first need is to find someone to care for us. Our mothers and fathers took on the role of caretakers. If we did not trust them, believed that they would be loyal to us, we would not have thrived. Here is when we first encounter an over lap, and dependence that all attributes of our lives depend on loyalty. We could not have trust in our parents if we did not see them being loyal to us. Every time we cried, whined, or gave sign of distress they faithfully came to us and cared for us. One definition of loyal is, faithful to any leader, party, or cause, or to any person or thing conceived as deserving fidelity. Our parents thought us deserving of fidelity. What does loyalty mean? The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines loyal as “having or showing complete and constant support for someone or something” and loyalty as “the quality or state of being loyal”. I agree with that statement. When I think of the word loyalty the first thing that that comes to mind is complete trust, openness, transparency and being there for one another. Today I am going to talk about loyalty in a relationship, specifically loyalty between a husband and wife. I also interviewed my wife- Ayesha, my sister- Humera and my wife’s sister-Fatima to get theirs view on what loyalty means to them in their relationships.…

Finding what loyalty means to me began in the summer of 1992. I was offered an employment opportunity by my uncle, Richard Graham. In particular, a sales position at the Ford dealership he recently had purchased. Since I was only twenty one years old, this seemed like a great opportunity to better myself. Although, southern Ohio, was once a thriving industrial community, it had since, became part of the “rust belt”. However, I was still a little apprehensive about moving to Tennessee. After all, spending my whole life in Portsmouth Ohio, made it home in my mind. In addition, my parents, grand-parents and siblings all still lived there. So that made the day I packed, what few belongings that were mine, in a small tow behind U-haul and headed south very difficult. Therefore, were if not for this leap of faith, I would have never met my loving wife Kisha. She has been my best friend for the last twenty years, one I adore to this day. We became acquainted through her sister Pam, whom also work for my uncle. Certainly ,we were destined to be together from the very beginning. Fate had drawn me to this little dot on a map in rule Middle Tennessee; at the time, I had no idea why. I was soon to find out though. The relationship move quickly, in fact, what was about to come would change both our lives forever. A few months in, Kisha started to complain about allergies. She called me one day and said “I think I'm allergic to our Christmas tree, I have been feeling horrible, my head has been all stopped up and I'm sick to my stomach”. Then came a trip to Dr. Organ. In brief, she explained her symptoms to him. He…
