1. A. Define antimicrobials.
a. Anti means against and opposite to, antimicrobials means that they are agents that kill and are against microorganisms to stop their growth. They are agents that are used to slow their growth and then kill the microbes that are the leading cause of an infection. The microbes are to stop with the growth and more reproduction of the organisms such like bacteria, fungus, viruses, and parasites.

2. Do all bacteria respond the same to a given antimicrobial? Explain your answer
a. They don’t, they have an antibiotic resistant. Antibiotics are there to kill and stop the growth of bacteria cells. The bacteria respond differently to the microbe. It can change its morphology, molecular components, gene expression,

Antibiotic test, such as the Kirby Bauer Method, are used to determine susceptibility to various antimicrobials. Why are they not used to determine resistance?
a. They grow a resistance to antibiotics and antimicrobials. Kirby Bauer is used to determine diffusion of a disk, to measure the effectiveness of antibiotics towards pathogenic microbes.

4. Compare and contrast the following terms: antiseptic, disinfectant, sterilant. Provide one example for each of the terms.
a. Antiseptic is used on living tissues of humans and animals. A disinfectant is used to on the non living items such like the surface and in water. Sterilant is used to destroy microorganism as a form of disinfectant. They kill all bacteria, fungus, viruses and also destroy diseases in the soil.

a. Briefly describe the Kirby-Bauer disc method. What is being tested? Why is this test useful?
a) Kirby-Bauer is used to determine the sensitivity of bacteria against the antimicrobial drugs. Doctors use this to determine which antibiotics are needed to treat infections.
b) The test is used to see how the antimicrobials impregnate on the disks are then placed on a plate which then are incubated to grow more bacteria it also allows the agar to diffuse over. Then a concentration gradient is created, if there is a zone of inhibition the the disks will show the growth being
