Extended Definition of Humor
Why is humor often known as being important? I was asked the same question and i believe that humor is needed for everyday life. Everywhere you go you hear examples of humor and what people have to say when it comes to it. Humor is used by everyone of all ages, all around the world. It is key to ones life to be filled with laughter and smiling. It is simply enjoyment and a happiness maker for the people in this world. Here are some examples of why humor is important to me.
On one hand, there are many quotes about humor that can be related to everyday life. The quote, “Like a welcome summer rain, humor may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air and you,” by Langston Holghes, is a self explanatory quote. Humor allows people to relax, smile, and change one’s mood, like a rain can cool and calm the earth. The second most important quote to me is, “ Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing,” by Mark Twain. This quote appeals to me and reminds me of life because without laughter and happiness that people get from humor, there would be a world of anger and insanity. Last of all, this quote "Humor can alter any situation and help us cope at the very instant we are laughing." by Allen Klein, explains how people use humor at any time. Humor is used no matter the situation, like at a funeral, a speaker may use some kind of humor to lighten the mood and raise people’s thoughts. Another example is when someone is having trouble with a certain activity or problem, a person may use a humorous joke to make that person struggling to lighten their mood to help him/her.
Another way to look at this is through negative definitions. The most important negative definition is pain. For example, one who gets in an accident or gets injured may have a serious injury or be killed from it. To that person who gets hurt will not think that it is humorous, while the people around him/her will laugh and take the serious incident in...
