It is 8:30 Monday night and the whole family is in the living room watching the Fox network's primetime hit "Ally McBeal". Suddenly, just after the program resumes after a painstakingly long commercial break, you see a man and a woman lying in bed talking to each other after having a night of hot, passionate sex. You look down and see your ten year old son or daughter lying on the floor just staring at the TV, taking it all in. You begin channel surfing, and end up on channel 3, CBS. There is a brand new sitcom being aired called "Some of My Best Friends". Almost immediately after you and your family begin viewing this program, two men, both proclaiming to be gay, begin kissing and embracing each other. Upset by all of this "garbage", you turn off the TV and decide to try and find something a little more "educational" to do.…

Reality television has been around far longer than many give it credit. Many viewers forget about the very first reality television shows such as Big Brother, Survivor, and non-trashy versions of The Bachelor that displayed things such as alliance, friendship, and character development through the praises of its audience. Although newer shows have been accused of growing "trashier"; I feel that this change is actually only in response to the demand of its audience. Show popularity drops when the message they portray becomes "unhip", or "uncool". So in order to keep up ratings shows were forced to show what people wanted to see. As our country has slowly let go of morals and standards, its people have been forced to adapt. Reality television has been forced to diminish all possibilities for ever being labeled as "moral". It has taken a direction for the worse and shows today lack little meaning or value.…

For the last decade, reality TV has become increasingly popular. Not just popular, as in commonly well accepted and generally appreciated, but amazingly popular – a cultural revolution. The article “Television: Why Reality TV Is Good For Us” describes the phenomenon as the reason for the creation of attractive cults lead by spiritual leaders in shape of heartbroken singles, horny studs and failed actors and singers. The article focuses on a group of women, whose cult’s ceremony is scheduled every Wednesday – holy Wednesday, as they call the day where they get their reality TV fix.…

In the year 1992 a new idea was introduced to America and it was called reality television. MTV produced a show called, The Real World that had seven strangers living in a house together and had everything they did filmed. After many failed attempts at trying to make this reality trend catch on, CBS launched Survivor, which pioneered the way for all reality shows to follow in the next decade. It was a show about people battling it out in two separate tribes to their wits end in the jungle and it spread like wildfire across America. Survivor premiere debuted to 28 million viewers and is still on today, a decade and 21 seasons later (McCraley). Reality…

In most people opinions, reality TV has no benefits at all. But, I have recognize some benefits that most people do not know about, they might get the useful things without knowing that, like something self-evident we get or children get it by watching people who are older than them doing it. Reality TV has an internal conflict about the positive impact, and while most people think that there are no positive things, there are some positive things gained from reality TV without feeling it, such as Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, The Biggest Loser, and American…

    Research on Reality Tv

"The real" in reality programming is a highly flexible concept. Rather than solely relying upon the use of actual documentary or "live" footage for its credibility, reality programming often draws upon a mix of acting, news footage, interviews and re-creations in a highly simulated pretense towards the "real." Admittedly, mainstream television news is also involved in the recreation of reality, rather than simply recording actual events. And yet, "reality" is dramatized on reality programming to an extent quite unlike conventional television news, and this dramatization is often geared towards more promotional, rather than informational, ends. The truth of the matter is that reality shows are all fundamentally real at their core, but with most programming – producers know that viewership is key to securing the corporate sponsorships. High viewership leads to more corporate sponsors, more corporate sponsors means more money, more money means more profits for all involved in the production. So, since viewership is key, sometimes they extort or beef up ‘reality’ to make it more interesting, or it has to be ‘planned reality’ because of the numerous legalities and logistics surrounding taping.…

Television tends to influence people’s life more than they actually think. Some television shows appear to be “real” ,such as soap operas and daytime dramas, altering the viewers’ perception of reality by making them blend in fantasy and fiction, but one kind of show has taken over the public attention in the past decade, the reality shows. Reality television is overtaking the networks and polluting the viewers’ minds with distorted pictures of reality, leaving behind an even bigger effect than that of regular television.…

The concept of reality TV is not new. In fact, the first reality TV show aired in 1948, 'Candid Camera'. Reality TV provides its viewers with variety, which in turn gives the channel what it wants- revenue. Shows such as "Survivor", "American Idol" and "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" are perfect representatives of reality TV. The younger generations look up to the people in these shows and their number of followers keeps increasing. The stars in these shows gain popularity and become rich and famous, and all along, all they do is be themselves on TV. But who gets to decide whether they're being real or not? Or whether the actual things happening behind the camera are being shown or not? Although there are many people who believe that the content of the Reality TV shows is real, what they do not know is that the stars sell their lives to the television and use their acting skills to build their fanbase in the few of hours of tailored footage that we, as their audience, gets to see.…
