Death Penalty Essay
Capital punishment is one of the most controversial issues in the criminal justice system. It is also one of the oldest forms of punishment that mankind has ever used for it has been used in every civilization. Capital punishment, the death penalty or execution, is the killing of a person by judicial process for retribution, general deterrence, and incapacitation. For this reason I am against the death penalty.
I feel that the death penalty has led to the execution of innocent people, that life imprisonment is an effective and less expensive substitute, that it discriminates against minorities and the poor, and that it violates the criminal's right to life. I also feel that the death penalty goes against many religions (including my own).
I believe that some of the worst crimes are murder, espionage, treason, rape, adultery, incest and sodomy. I believe that murder should get life in prison. If you are convicted of espionage you will get 10 years in prison. If you commit adultery you should be banished from your town. If you commit incest you should get 14 years in prison. Treason and sodomy should get life imprisonment. Those are some of punishments I think you should receive for those crimes.
Those are my beliefs on the death penalty. I think that the death penalty should be banned because most of the major religions have rules stating that you shall not kill. Plus most of the major nations were founded on religious ideas and ethics. Unless you are a mass murderer you will not receive the death penalty. Every one else should either go to jail or prison for life or for a very long time. That is what I think.
