When Romeo faced Tybalt he clearly stated that he did not want to fight and how he loved the capulet just as much he loved his own name, but Tybalt commenced fighting anyways. In the very beginning of the play, Benvolio confronts Tybalt to only attempt to keep the peace and clearly states this while doing so.
