Death from Child Abuse
Death From Child Abuse Reaction Paper

Never in my life have I encountered a more emotionally draining, motivating through awareness book. Ursula Sunshine Assaid , a five year old little girl, was killed by child abuse. She was mutilated, hit, kicked, starved, fed soap… the list goes on and on. Death From Child Abuse… and no one heard is a book about the last week of Ursula's life. She resided in Florida with her mother Susan and her mother's boyfriend Don. Don had demented views on disciplining children and was convinced that Ursula was a misbehaved spoiled brat that needed to be punished. He took on the role of discipliner, while her mother stood by and watched. The book graphically describes the pain this poor child probably went through the last week before she died.
My reaction to this book included disgust, becoming literally sick to my stomach, and becoming completely motivated to do whatever I could so no other child would have to endure what Ursula went through. At the conclusion I could do nothing but cry. Cry for Ursula, cry for the numerous other children who underwent the same thing, and mainly cry because I knew at that moment, somewhere a child was experiencing what Ursula went through. As a current child abuse awareness billboard reads, "An abused child can't cry out for help… sometimes all they can do is cry."
As advanced as our society is and with the high spirit of freedom and individual rights, it pains me that we are sometimes to preoccupied to notice the signs that would suggest something is wrong. My reaction is caused not only because I am a decent human being, but also because I am a mother. As a mother, I can not begin to fathom anyone hurting their children. I hurt when my son hurts. The rare occasions I have to discipline my son brings out the truth that it sometimes "hurts the parents more than the child." Reading the book it was very clear that Don was deluded. He seemed to honestly believe that he was doing what was best for

This is bitter book, was my first reaction. I didn't know if I wanted to finish it, because it was just horrible how this girl had been treated and what she had to go through. It kind of shocked me the fact that she went through all of the trouble. At first As I was reading I thought that the mother would of have the courage to stop the father from abusing precious, I mean its his own daughter, who would do such a sick thing. I was wrong; because the mother didn’t even do anything about it instead she as well abused her physically and mentally.…

This book show the devastating and disgusting events in one of the most severe child abuse cases in Californian history. It is the story of Dave Pelzer, who was brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother. A mum who tortured, played mental games, games that left him for dead. He had to learn how to play his mother's games in order to survive because she no longer considered him a son, but a slave and no longer a boy, but an "it."…

There are some many stories in this book of women being abused and belittled, which would have made me give up reading it if it had not also had some of the most inspiring stories. Many of these women never gave up. They could easily have let death take them or succumb to the lives they were forced into but they didn’t. We have all heard stories about sex trafficking and how women are treated in these countries but this book brings the tragedies into the spotlight unlike any book I have ever read before. I know that my problems seem small compared to these women and young girls but this book has given me hope that I can overcome my own problems. It definitely teaches a lesson that hope is never truly lost as long as you do not give up.It also shows that evil never really wins.…

I liked how vivid the author was about the things he encountered. His inner thoughts is what also made this novel an interesting read for me because it showed readers what he was really feeling. When I read Dave’s thought and feelings about being locked in a bathroom with ammonia, it brought tears to my eyes. At first, the brutal details in this book made it hard for me to believe that any child endured such pain for so long. I couldn’t believe how long Dave was abused. I just couldn’t understand what human being does this to a child—what mother does this to a…

I decided to use this book because it really grabbed my attention the first time I read it. This book is such a horrific story; it makes you wonder how he got through what he did. Also it's motivating, because if he got through that and is now a very successful author it means that you can honestly be anything you want to. The book itself was really detailed and it makes you feel his pain, and also it helps you realize the seriousness of child abuse. A detail about the book…

I had ordered the book and was quickly deterred when I compared its size to that of the other books on the list. Fortunately, I decided to stick to it and greatly enjoyed the read. The trauma that Truddi had dealt with instantly put my life into perspective and made me feel grateful towards my own life. I found the contents of the autobiography shocking and twisted. I was virtually hurt by the acts inflicted upon her. The most eye-opening one I found was when the title of book was revealed through Rabbit’s story. Wanting to be a psychiatrist (or clinical psychologist), I was fascinated with Truddi’s stories and the bond formed between her and Dr. Phillips’s. The fact that Dr. Phillips was able to make such a vast difference in a woman’s life only strengthened my path towards my career choice. A quote that quite literally hit home was found on page 2 of the book. “Remember the Cheers when the child abuse hotline number went up on the Jersey Turnpike? Well cancel the cheers; the sign went down this morning.” The reason the sign had been taken down was because too many people called searching for help and the New Jersey agency was unable to keep up. I was unable to shake off the fact that problems such as these happen all around us and that there could be another Truddi down the block from me. I was also bothered by the fact that the sign was taken down so quickly because too many calls were made. Isn’t that the point of putting up the sign? Either way, When Rabbit Howls was an incredible story and an incredible opportunity that I am happy I…

When I was presented the assignment to read the award winning novel “A Child called it” by David Pelzer I had mixed feelings. I remember last semester a couple of my friends were reading the novel for their school, family, and community class. They told me about the book they had to read and how it was disturbing and some parts were unbearable to read. They revealed it was about a boy who is abused in the worst ways, and nobody does anything about it. Once receiving the book as well as the assignment I began reading it so I could have my own interpretation about the book. While reading through the novel I felt as it I was right next to David in all the situations he goes through. I felt as if I hated his manipulating mother, spineless father, and emotionless brothers just as much as David did.…

Many people have difficulty understanding why any person would hurt a child. The public often assumes that people who abuse their children suffer from mental disorders, but fewer than 10 percent of abusers have mental illnesses. Most abusers love their children but tend to have less patience and less mature personalities than other parents. These traits make it difficult to cope with the demands of their children and increase the likelihood of physical or emotional abuse.…

    Child Sexual Abuse

Child sexual abuse has been occurring from time to time in our world today. It is one of the many dark sides of humankind although how civilized we think we are. It is believed that child sexual abuse happens in all races, ethnics, social groups and religious backgrounds. The average age of a child being sexually abused is between nine and eleven. Although the number of cases of child sexual abuse reported has declined considerably since the 1990s, the number is still far from comforting. In the United States of America alone, one in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused. This leads to approximately 1.3 million victims in US per year, even so, only a mere 10% of the cases were officially reported. Even though Malaysia does not have as many cases of child sexual abuse as the United States, we should not underestimate this vile act because we do not know what may be in store for us in the future. Acts that are considered child sexual abuse are fondling the children’s genitals or making the child touch the adults’ genitals and the worst of all, inserting a penis or any objects into a child’s anus or vagina. Besides that, exposing a child to pornography or sexual intercourse can also be considered visual sexual abuse of the child. Child sexual abuse are considered to be crueler than murder my some extremist, according to their point of view, sexually abusing a child will not only cause physical harm to them, but will also damage them mentally and emotionally. The horrifying memory will forever be etched into their brains for the rest of their lives. About two thirds of the abusers are related to the child and most abusers are men (National Resource Center on Child Sexual Abuse, 1993). This means most abusers are family members, friends, relatives or acquaintances of the victims. Since it is someone the children knows, it is easy for the abuser to gain the trust of the child. Children are also taught to obey the adults and not question their authority. They…
