On September 19, 2017, the undersigned detective and Detective Phan interviewed Zaire's 17 years old Aunt Malayka Simmons. Malayka stated that a few weeks ago, she slept over at Zaire's house. Malayka stated that her cousin Justic Simmons and "Migo" came over to Zaire's house at that night.…
This film tells a series of stories that explains how caretakers overcome challenges with techniques that people can implement. The film describes the medical error that nearly killed Dennis Quaid’s infant twins, and his call to action for patient safety. I anticipate on using this source to describe how medical reporting is important for the safety of a patient and how it often goes unreported.…
Mr Johan experiences symptoms of panic attack when he feels self-conscious in front of other people when performing certain tasks. He reported feeling faint and had black out of thoughts during those episodes, whereby he was not able to think of anything. Both his hands would tremble and become numb. He would also be sweating but experienced no symptoms of pounding heart or choking sensations. Those panic symptoms would often last for one to two hours or until he removed himself from the anxiety provoking situation.…
I am asking for your help to solve a health crisis facing America. Around my city I see communities devasted be opioid overdoses. It is very devastating to see stories about overdoses on the new, in newspapers, and online. People should be able to treat their pain without worrying if they will get addicting or even dying.…
One of the biggest challenges facing the cardiovascular unit is making sure there is enough staff to cover all areas. The…
Communication, according to the Free Dictionary, is “the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, signals, writing or behaviors”. It is vital in the development and maintenance of personal and professional relationships. It is important to understand communication also includes non-verbal as well as verbal acts. According to Rane (2010), 93% of communication is nonverbal and body language is an effective nonverbal communication tool. There are two essential components in communication, which are a sender and receiver of a message. In the personal and professional health care communication paper, I will discuss the definition of healthcare communication, the relevancy of effective personal healthcare communication to health outcomes, how the lack of effective personal and professional healthcare communications contributes to poor health outcomes, and the theories and principles of therapeutic communication in health care settings for the healthcare professional (UOP, 2012).…
Currently, I lead a team of medical assistants running day-to-day operation in a medical clinic. As a team leader, I act as a resource for my staff to consult with regarding any patient interactions or physician interactions. My staff feels comfortable asking for clarification in any situation and trusts that I will guide them thoroughly. For example, a patient once came to see the doctor about prescribing medical marijuana, however the only doctor on-site was restricted from providing controlled substances which medical marijuana falls under. Additionally, the patient did not have a family doctor to follow up with. The staff had contacted me in this situation asking for advice; I assessed the situation and suggested the patient to either ask…
I enjoy doing this assignment. In one of my psychology courses I took during my undergraduate studies, we had to do a similar clinical write-up. We conducted two assessments, including the Beck Depression Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. We also conducted clinical interviews and had to write a write-up summarizing the scores of the assessment and created a treatment plan. Before completing this assignment, I thought it would be easy for me to do but, I found that the write-up is difficult because of the specific format it is supposed to be written in. I found myself going back to the examples in the module to make sure that the style of writing meets the standards of a professional clincal write-up one would see in the field.…
On 6/19/15 San Diego Youth Services staff took Jesus to a doctor's appointment at the FFAST Program. The staff were informed by the doctor that the foster parents have not picked up Jesus medication (Ritalin). According to the RP the medication was filled 30 days ago. Jesus has aggressive and impulsive behaviors that are unmanageable at times. The behaviors seem to increase when Jesus is not on his medication. The RP stated that Jesus has not been on his medication for 30 days due to the foster parents not acquiring his medications. The RP stated the foster parent have been contacted to no…
I am writing in response to a recent article in OJIN titled “Registered Nurses as Caregivers: Influencing the System as Patient Advocates” by Michelle A Lucatorto, Timothy W Thomas, and Terry Siek located in Vol-21-2016 September. Patient advocacy is of the utmost priority for a nurse. We are the primary caregiver, and most influential part of the patient’s healthcare experience. The article addresses barriers within the healthcare system which inhibit nurses in their roles of patient advocate. I am writing this letter in agreement with this fact. I firmly believe that institutional barriers are the largest impediment that a nurse faces in their roles. I am writing this letter to provide evidence to this fact, and provide additional support…
For my clinical experience today I shadowed an RN, at the Ashe County Health Department. The RN was participating in the flu clinic today. She administered many flu vaccinations. Most of the individuals that came in today for the clinic were over the age of 65 and were given the high dose flu vaccination. The RN also worked with a Spanish interpreter during several visits throughout the day. She would first assess a Spanish speaking individual’s ability to speak English, then if deemed necessary she would call for the interpreter. The nurse made sure to always direct her questions, and maintain eye contact with the patient. She wanted them to feel included, and really engage them through therapeutic communication, even though she did not speak…
In regards to reciprocal care; the last “R” among the “Three R’s” of care giving, I can only concur that reciprocal care is a vital part of the program at the early childhood education center in which I reside. To begin with, due to the fact that I have been able to observe the infants responding properly to the teachers with their own ways of communication; true conversations were actually happening; a teacher conversing with an infant, allowing in this manner the infant to feel free to express themselves. Nevertheless, I was able to observe the teachers focusing on one infant at a time at any given moment. For example, during meal time the teacher prepared food for the infants after which she called them all over to the table. Despite most often infants’ incapability to walk, they managed their way via crawling over to the table. After which, the teacher allowed the…
By being in the elementary school in the Hill District I have gained so many valuable experiences. I have been able to learn so much from these kids and my hope is that they too have learned something from Duquesne students. One thing that I have been able to observe at Weil Elementary school is health behaviors. This is a broad category, but there is one health behavior that I have seen numerous times in the first grade classroom I am in. I have seen numerous kids falling asleep during class time. This has occurred while they are sitting at their desk, sitting on the reading carpet, etcetera. What the teacher will wake them up and tell them to go to the bathroom and wet their face. Sometimes this works and the child will stay awake, but other times the child will doze off again. This is alarming because it shows the lack of sleep some of these children get, and this lack of sleep is leading to a poor performance in their education.…
Communication is the heart of conveying a message in the health care world, whether it is with patients and members of their family, physicians, peers, or other clinical staff. The way we communicate affects everything and everyone around us. Communication is essential in the workplace. It contributes to safety, proper care, goal settings, and cultural sensitivity with patients and caregivers. When effective communication is not used in the health care setting, it can cause confusion between physicians and nurses and between nurses and patients, which can make the outcome unpleasant, leading to miscommunication. Miscommunication may also lend itself to becoming a matter of life or death.…
