Dealing With Stereotypes
A situation I have to face is dealing with being stereotyped. My ethnicity of being Indian causes people to presume that my dialect would have an accent and that I would be a shy personality. They tend infer what my religion might be, expect me to dress completely reserved. They believe that I am a genius especially in mathematics. Before they even try to get to know my personality, they often conclude that they already who I am. Although I do have some attributes to these characteristics, I try to show people who I truly am, because I am more unique than some cliché persona. I would not do anything differently because having to present myself as an individual gets me out of my comfort

We all have encountered some type of stereotype or prejudices. A stereotype that I had to face was age prejudice by me being so young sometimes people don't set the high expectations for you that other people would at an older age because they expect for you to make mistakes. At times my mindset isn't where most kids are at my age. I skipped pre k and I am supposed to be in the 8th grade. When I tell people my age they be like " OMG you are young to be the grade that you are in" this is a perfect example of what I am stating that people sometimes think that you have to be average and can't go over and beyond your years.…

I have experienced many stereotypes throughout my life. In high school we had a project that involved asking people what they thought of us when they first met the person who was conducting the question. When I had asked my peers I got the most shocking responses. I was stereotype as the dumb girl who looked conceited and wasn’t going to get anywhere in my life. Even though that was high school, today I still get the stereotyped as a dumb and mean girl.…

Public speakers can change societies by changing their way of thinking and/or giving a certain group a voice. Martin Luther King Jr. led the famous "million man march" and was one of the main figures that gave the African-Americans a voice during the Civil Rights movement. The infamous Adolf Hitler made an entire country believe his xenophobic ideology that the Jewish people were the reason were to blame for Germany's impoverished state. Even Socrates changed the way of Greek thinking altogether by introducing a new of way of thinking known as logos. One of the examples of a speech changing society was when Wiley College debated Oklahoma City University.…

Stereotypes can form truthful and untruthful results that can mentally, emotionally and physically destroy a person, race or culture which we see today. African Americans are better at sports than white people. This is a stereotype. People think that African Americans are better at sports, but is this really true. Think about Chris Paul, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. You think that those players are the best in the game, but are they. There are very good white players that are legends. Think about Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, John Stockton, and Steve Nash. All of these white legends are very good. Some African Americans are good at sports, not all and there are white players that are very goof if not better than some African Americans. Stereotypes have a big impact on society and we should just ignore them so that our society will be a better one.…
