Ancestry Means a lot To Some People, Not All People
To some, the importance of history and ancestry is not a point of interest. When Obi was chosen to become the leader of the Ndume Central school, he decided to have something that meant a lot to many removed. There was a path that a teacher who has been at the school for about three years stated, “the path appears to be very important to them. Although it is hardly used, it connects the village shrine with their place of burial.” Michael no longer wanted the path to be there at his school. Ani, a village priest shared with Michael the significance of the path, but he didn’t care.
This is one story I wouldn’t mind forgetting about. It shouldn’t be a big deal if he doesn’t want the path there. Once he became leader of the school, it became his and he has the right to do what he wants with it. Sometimes something that means a lot to you or you value it, doesn’t mean that special thing has to mean anything to someone else. Every one has their own things that they cherish. If the path really meant something to them, they should’ve built it at a park or something.
After Obi said he was going to have the path removed from his school building, two days later all the flowers were stomped out on the floor between the school and the village. I believe that the village started disliking the fact that Michael Obi, something who wanted something valuable to many to be destroyed, was going to be the new school leader. To make everyone happy, they could’ve talked out ways to keep the path, just maybe not in his school yard, or maybe put it in the back of the building. Being a leader takes a lot of responsibility, and you have to be ready for everything that’s thrown at you.
