When the 19th Century arrived, Europeans forced themselves into Central and West Africa. The explorers ended up fully attacking and conquering Africa by the 1880s. This caused colonies to become poor and very uneducated. European imperialism left colonies lacking school, homes, and hospitals all for certain reasons. The main reason imperialism was done by Europe was from the want for power, resources, competition, and trade all for and over Africa. The primary reason was due to the European craving for power over African colonies. At the time, Europeans cared only about their power of their country and the colonies in Africa. Their selfishness caused them to crave power over territories they could easily conquer like the African colonies. They were selfish to receive the most supplies giving them power. If resources are imported constantly to Europe, that means they are in control causing people to listen to their rules. By 1884, Europe imperialized all countries in Africa except for Liberia (Document A). Many European industries benefitted from the supplies Africa exported such as the cotton, gold, and the coffee industry (Document D). The European colonizers benefitted by using these resources for fabrics, banking national currencies, and food products or processing (Document D). The resources Europe imported was also a cause of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution may not have started without the Europeans imperializing African colonies. The Bessemer process, an improved manufacturing of steel, started in 1855 using the imported supplies from Africa (Document C).
