Three Major Causes of WW1 There were a lot of reasons for the cause of WW1 but there were three in particular that were major reasons: militarism, alliances, and imperialism. Lots of wars were fought and some deadly more so than others. The underlying cause of WW1 was the war and the disagreements between countries.
