Davy Crockett Biography
Davy Crockett is a famous hunter and known for all of his hardships throughout his life. He was born on August 17, 1786, in eastern Tennessee. He then died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. Davy Crockett was a very influential person because he is a great frontiersman, patriotic politician who worked for the Tennessee legislature, and soldier. In his early life he was hired out to a man named Jacob Siler, and was then forced to drive cattle. Crockett describes this as “… as little as I knew about travelling, or being from home, he hired me to the old Dutchman, to go four hundred miles on foot, with a perfect stranger, that I never had seen until the evening before.” (Crockett, 1834 p. 23) His parents had never even met this man, but yet sold him out for seven dollars. Even though Crockett was in a confused state, he went onward, knowing that he may never see his precious family again. After four or five weeks of staying with Jacob, he began to plan an escape. He recognized merchants that periodically would travel by his father’s work. Who had promised to take him back to his home, and protect him. As he traveled it began to snow, despite the inhospitable conditions that showed he pushed himself, and eventually returned home to his father. (Crockett, 1834) (Lofaro) Shortly after he returned home, a school opened up, and Davy joined with great excitement. However, he did not stay for long due to a bully, who would beat him. Instead, during school sessions, he would retreat into the woods and return home when school was over so he would not have to confront the bully. “He repeated this pattern for a few days, until the schoolmaster sent a note to his father, asking why he was absent.” (Bartlett) After this, he knew there was an even more painful beating awaiting him from his own father. Davy then fled his home to the woods and evaded his father until he was too enraged to follow him and went home. (Marck) (Bartlett) Davy then ran away with a

Larger than life itself, James Bowie has inspired many legends. Bowie was born in Kentucky on April 10, 1796. Throughout his upbringing, Bowie was said to ride wild horses, alligators, and trap bears. Bowie enlisted in the War of 1812, although he was recruited too late to see any action on the warfront. Soon he was back in his childhood home, Louisiana, and he continued business as usual. Later on Bowie teamed up with his brother and Jean Lafayette in the slave smuggling business. In the 1820s Jim Bowie and his brothers made a less negative move and set up the first steam-powered mill in Louisiana. His achievement of being a soldier, marketer and landowner would be enough to make sure he wasn’t forgotten; but this isn’t even the tip of the iceberg of Jim Bowie.…

    The Alamo Movie Analysis

When discussing all films that have been made to remake the battle of the Alamo “The Alamo (2004)” has been the most accurate with minor details forgotten. The set time period for this film is in the late 1830s near San Antonio de Bexar what is now known as San Antonio. In comparison to the lectures I have been taught about this subject it further explained what happened at the battle causing the film to implant an imagery in my mind to remember this lesson. This film has a great way of showing how Juan Seguin was sent with a letter to Houston, resulting in him being absent when all those in the Alamo were killed. John Bonham, who was one of many messengers in the battle, was almost entirely ignored in this film. Jim Bowie, David Crockett, and William B. Travis characters were well depicted as well as how they had died. Although this film does not pay attention to those that did survive the battle which are very significant in the battle of the Alamo. Due to the reason that this film is a Disney film it was categorized as a PG-13 movie which explains the reason it had bloodless fighting. This makes the battle scenes extremely inaccurate for viewers because this battle was very gory. Overall this film did procure all the necessary information we need to know about the Alamo and audiences can get a two-hour lesson from this…
