Dave Giles: Eulogy For The Most Outstanding Person
It is a pleasure to nominate Dave Giles for the "Most Outstanding Person" award. He is a former alumni of Carl Sandburg College. My first impression of Dave came in 2012 when he gave hands-down the best speech on the importance of education that I had ever heard. He truly enjoys spending his time helping the community's youth. He has also continued to live up to that impression of being a passionate man who is optimistic, supporting, and is as committed to children as he is to bettering our society.

Every kid from school knows who Dave Giles is. I asked my younger sibling if they knew a man by that name and instantly they answered "yes". They described him as happy and optimistic. They also told me that he has worked with them in school and that he was there often. With Dave's personality I am certain that he talks to the whole district about school.

Additionally, to his optimistic and positive behavior he was our number one fan. I ran track and cross country for most of my high school years and Dave Giles face is a familiar one. He would always be in our home meets and distance would not stop him from going to away meets. Not a lot of people showed up to track meets other than parents and a few friends, let alone a cross country meet. He must have had a

I remember him saying that being a part of a good deed whether big or small makes you feel important, I have not forgotten that. Which is why I continue to do community service to this day. Dave himself is involved in so many different organizations and he continues to go the extra mile. I was involved in a community service club and our group needed help we didn't know where to begin. However, Dave came in one day and told us about places and events we could participate; he even gave us a long list of things to do. That is when he made me realize that a person can volunteer at any age and that any bit

Prior to being the principal at Jennings County he attended the school. He was a great athlete and was inducted into the Indiana State High School Athletics Association Hall of Fame. Growing up I have been told many stories about how special of a man he was. He stood over 6 feet tall, well groomed with his dark hair in a side part and he was made of pure muscle. It wasn’t the type you see in body building magazines but the type that could lift a car off of someone pinned underneath, or knock down a horse with a single…

We come here today to honor the life of Laura Elizabeth Clements. Born into a new era on April 12, 2000, Laura accomplished many great things. Laura was the second child of Adam and Amy Clements, the first daughter of Adam and Amy, and the fourth child of Adam. As a child, she was a tomboy. She loved being outdoors and doing things like camping, swimming, and canoeing. She was an outgoing child. She loved hanging around other people, and she loved playing with her four siblings. Starting school at age five, Laura became a bookworm. She loved reading and writing, something that stayed with her until her death. Another thing that appeared during elementary school and stayed until her death was helping others. As a child Laura loved helping out…

I stand before you today, the representative of a family in grief, in a country in mourning before a world in shock. We are all united not only in our desire to pay our respects to Diana but rather in our need to do so. For such was her extraordinary appeal that the tens of millions of people taking part in this service all over the world via television and radio who never actually met her, feel that they, too, lost someone close to them in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is a more remarkable tribute to Diana than I can ever hope to offer her today.…

After learning about the story of Josiah DuBois and the lives that he saved, it has allowed me to reflect on how the actions I have taken that has caused an impact on those around me. Taking a concern for the lives of those around him, Josiah DuBois, has created a ripple of good deeds that carry on into generation after generation. Looking at my community and the problem that we face, I decided to take it into my own hands and work together to make those lives around me a little bit better. No matter what the project is, working together to overcome hardships and lift each other up is “just what a human being should do.”…

My most significant contribution to a community, without any doubt in my mind, has been to both of my local Boys and Girls Club of America branches. I first began to go to the Boys and Girls Club shortly after the divorce of my parents. In the beginning, I was at my lowest point, until I learned many of my peers were in a similar situation. From that point on, I helped the staff at the Club, mentored younger kids, and provided assistance to anyone who needed it. Quickly, I became the Club’s youth of the month, and in 2013 became the Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville’s youth of the year, the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member can receive. In the Club, everyone had forged a bond of understanding with one another. In some way, we were…

As long as I can remember service to others was always encouraged by my family and teachers. For example, I helped teachers with the intent of lightening their load of work so they can be able to go home earlier. Things like this make me proud because I am able to help others, and to bring a smile to their faces. My excuse to avoid community service was that I always thought that school was all about homework and getting good grades to be on the top 20 of your class. Truth is I have always overlooked this people thinking they were being lazy for not working, but through this community service I learned that each and everyone around the world is fighting their own battles and we all deal with them the best way we can. I am proud of myself because I went to that community service and learned about this people who I had always stereotyped by their actions, community service has encouraged me to actively listen and learn from others, to walk alongside my neighborhood and to build new…

We are gathered here today to recognize those who have excelled academically in the past school year. I am honored to have been asked to take part in this very special event. We no doubt have three groups in attendance here today - those who excelled and will receive awards, those who worked hard and came up short of an award and. sadly. those who did not try at all. While we are pleased to take part in recognizing academic achievements, we encourage every one to find where your interests and abilities are and to pursue them.…
