Book Review The title of the book I chose to read was Dark. Paul Secada was the exciting author of this book. This book is a fiction, novelette. This simply means the book is a short story. 2012 is the publishing year for Dark, which makes it rather relevant to the current year. Events occurring in this book are very likely to happen in today’s daily living. Critical issues were portrayed in the very beginning of the book. As a child, Sam, the main character was abused and talked down upon by his aggressive father. The father made reasoning of this because he felt it would make Sam stronger for the times his peers would bully him throughout school. Dark presented aspects that occur daily within the world. Sex, drugs and money seem to be things the majority of humans strive for. Just as any other human, Sam, was trapped into the fabulous lifestyle associated with sex, drugs and money. Sam was a troubled child from the bullying and abusing language his father forced upon him while growing up. He was not allowed to be happy. His father did not like happiness for anyone. The only time the father was happy was when the family would visit their cabin. The cabin was left to Sam’s father when his father used to house before his death. Sam had this fascination with his grandfathers typewriter as a child. For relaxation one weekend, Sam and his family went to the cabin. Before leaving the cabin, Sam’s father gave him the typewriter. The father told Sam that his grandfather was a great writer and he would appreciate Sam putting it into good use. The drug of choice for Sam was cocaine. He was introduced to this drug when he was a 26 year old, virgin college student. When leaving the bar after a night of drinking, he was associating himself with this lady by the name of Andrea. She gave him a hit of the cocaine outside of the bar while she did some as well. This was the life changing moment for Sam. That
