Over two hundred thirty million copies of the Daniel X series have been sold worldwide. The author James Patterson wrote Daniel X: Demons and Druids in collaboration with Adam Sadler. The publishing date is July 2010.In the book, Daniel X is an alien hunter who is looking for number three on his alien list of outlaws, Phosphorius Beta. “Think of a million or so angry wolves-on fire, that’s a pretty good approximation of number three”, well that’s how Patterson puts it. The epic battle between alien hunter and fire has begun. I enjoyed Daniel X because of the author’s action and how he weaves myths and fiction into the story, but I disliked Patterson’s writing style and several other points of the book.…

The Devil has been the subject of many stories, always represented as an evil being, a cursed creature that preys on the souls of humans. He is described in many different ways, just like the many forms he takes in many stories. Two famous stories that deal with this fearsome creature are "The Devil and Tom Walker" by Washington Irving, and "The Man in the Black Suit" by Stephen King. Both suggest that the Devil always pursue the human weaknesses, however, Irving implies that the Devil only hunts the corrupted heart; while King signifies the Devil also take interest in innocents.…

To start this journal, I would just like to say "Genre Fiction" should not be compared, honestly with "Literary Fiction." After reading the short story by Benjamin Percy, "Refresh, Refresh," I became very depressed. After reading the "Literary Revolution in the Supermarket Aisle: Genre Fiction is Disruptive Technology," I discovered why. "Refresh, Refresh" is what I would call a piece of Literary Fiction. It has merit and depth, and yet so does Genre Fiction. "Refresh, Refresh" is also "Genre Fiction," as well. However, Literary Fiction helps us escape reality as does Genre, but Literary just gives us more problems. Depressing, ulcer-causing, loss of appetite problems.…

In the essay, “From the Poets in the Kitchen,” Paule Marshall talks about a time when she listened to a novelist who said that women possess the ability to talk with ordinary and typical words, which some expert writers use. This novelist also said that women, who use everyday words, converse mostly in the kitchen, and this experience plays an enormous role into them becoming a skillful writer. In addition, Marshall goes on to agree with the novelist by saying that “the proper measure of a writer’s talent is his skill in rendering everyday speech” (Marshall 139).…

Jonathan Cain went through a crazy, musical life that was a whirlwind. This life was started on February 26, 1950. The mastery of the piano and accordion in his childhood enabled him to get the beat to write the beautiful lyrics in his masterpieces. He now has a lyrical poem based life that came from playing with many different bands. Two of those poems, from when he was with Journey, really stuck out to me with the meaning and beat to the song. Jonathan Cain has a great mind of poetry and the devices needed to be great at that specific art.…

The first example is how the boy thinks that he is going camping but really he is being kidnapped and sold back to his parents. According to paragraph 16 sentence 1 it states"I like this fine. I've never camped out before" This means that the boy didn't know what was happening and he just enjoyed it. He talked and talked on and on after that while eating. They probably expected him to be afraid or scared, but he seemed quite happy with living in a cave with two men that he has never seen before in his entire life. Also how the little boy just seem to take over and be the head of office or something like that.
