Daniel Martin is a postmodernist novel gathering all specific features of the cultural and literrary movement.Daniel Martin is a hollywood scipt writer with unbalanced life,breaking core values.His failed marriage to Nell,his affairs with different women just for the sake of the game reveals his narcisist and superficial side.Daniel.s one night stand with Jane,Nell.s sister and Anthony.s girlfriend affects him forever making him always live in the past,while Jane.s memory give him a negative side,making him believe that he will lose at some point in time everything he has and that there is nothing that can only belong to him.
A postmodernist feature is revealed in the novel through the attempt of the main character to write a novel.In fact the novel Daniel Martin is a novel about a novel and John Fowles is a postmodernist meta-novelist.Dan takes the final decision to write a novel at his ranch in Thorncombe when,all alone in the orchard,he gets overwhelmed by thoughts,memories,feelings.He is trying to overcome his playwright and script writter limits and wants to put all his memories on paper.But,at the end of the novel,the author releavs that Daniel.s attempt to write a novel remain in stage of a project that will never be brought to an end.
