The Dandenong Ranges National Park (Commonly called the Dandenong) is one of the prime scenic attraction areas of Victoria, Australia. Over one million visitors are attracted to the park each years enjoying a variety of recreational opportunities, and it should most definitely be added on the World Heritage List for the priceless beauty, and the fascinating fauna and flora it holds.

The Dandenong is located in Victoria, Australia 38km east of Melbourne. The Dandenong stretches to an amazing length of 32.15km squared and is 35400 hectares. The exact coordinates for The Dandenong is 37.8103° S and 145.3856° E. In the map below the Dandenong is revealed by the colour crimson.
It is divided into 5 sections; The Doongolla Forest, containing Mt Dandenong itself, the Ferntree Gully, possibly known the most as its used for fitness-related walking and family picnics, Mount Evelyn Forest, which is the most northerly section of the park, Olinda Forest which occupies the eastern slopes of Mt Dandenong and Sherbrooke Forest with beautiful, lush ferneries and rocky streams.

The forests has also significant presence of varieties of exotic flora and fauna, such as the Slender-Tree fern, Mountain-bird Orchid, Lyrebird and forest owls such as the Power Owl and the Sooty Owl. There is a total of 440 flora species and 191 fauna species that have been recorded in the park. Of the 440 native plant species , 20 are listed as threatened in Victoria and 3 are listed under the Flora and Fauna Guaranteed Act and one of them that is listed is the Slender -tree fern.
