Dalman And Lei Case
Creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers will help the business grow because it will free up some of the responsibilities that Dalman and Lei are doing now that are preventing them from being able to focus on expansion and growth of the company. I think they should consider building a senior team that would be able to manage the critical areas of the business. This would help boost the company to a higher level. These location managers have the urge to make things happen and it will help them grow and be extra motivated while preparing for the new expansion in the future. The CEO and CFO will be able to look for additional expansion opportunities and look into other strategic decisions such as whether patents or franchising makes sense. This would allow for …show more content…
I believe this because the location mangers have already been in the company and they have the knowledge of the company and skills. The manager will already know the ins and outs of the company, the problems that are already involved with the company, and the way things are handled and ran throughout the company. If Dalman and Lei are able to train the person that knows how to run day to day tasks mixed with upper level responsibilities, then they would be able to handle anything that is thrown at them whether it be from the operational level or the upper level. Dalman and Lei are both owners of the company so I think that the decisions should be decided by both. One cannot make all the decisions for the company because the other may not agree to it and it could cause serious friction within the business. I think they both have equal responsibilities and equal team ownership to make decisions based on what the other wants to make the company thrive. The new levels of authority (management) that Sandwich Blitz, Inc. would have if the new position is created would be as

The decision on whether to promote one of the existing store managers or to hire someone from the outside is not an easy one. Each option has advantages and disadvantages. If you promote one of the store managers, you gain the advantage of someone who is already familiar with the day to day operations. Unless this person also has previous experience at this type of management, there will not be any new ideas introduced to the organization. In order to do this, they would need to hire someone from the outside. Though this person may not be familiar with the product line, new management ideas could be introduced into the organization. New ideas could help the organization run more efficiently. Someone who has experience managing a large team over a large geographic area plus some training experience and finance experience would be a great find for the company.…

    1. Creating a new position between CEO and the location manager will help grow business because it will allow the CEO more time to deal with more pressing business issues like expansion of the company. It will allow the CEO more time to focus on different aspects of the business. Therefore, I believe that adding more levels of management will help keep the business become more organized because he will be able to delegate his present duties to the new managers (Bateman & Snell, 2013, p. 155).…

Creating a position between the CEO and location managers would be somewhat a good idea. I see that as a bad idea for them right now because how they are running their business it’s a day to day decision. If they create that position that’s another salary they have to afford and it doesn’t seem like they are ready for it yet. A good thing about it is that they can have a certain person focus on the pros and cons of the business and see the inside and outside of the business. It seems to be that they want to hire an area director to go around to locations and see how the sales are and how the store is being run. Also that person can help Dalman and Lei advertise their business and try to get it on local radio stations, flyers, newspaper, and coupons for repeating customers, and maybe even designing a mascot to go on the sidewalk and pass out the coupons and bring people in.…

With every decision we make, as either a manager, owner, leader, or human being we should always check the mirror, this means that we should look at what we are doing, is it what we really want, or is this who I really am, by asking himself these questions and contemplating the decision he is preparing to make Dalman is able to use that reflection when explaining his decision to his employees, investors, or partner. Once he feels as though he has looked at all the steps that apply and is making a solid decision then he can move on to the last step that fits this…

    1) Creating a new position between the CEO and the location manager would help the business to grow many ways. First it would allow Dalman and Lei to focus on the greater goal of the company, and leave the researching of franchising or opening up more company owned shops to the potential position. This position could take away a lot of the stress that the two feel as business owners, he or she could handle a lot of the necessary tasks, and then give Dalman and Lei a monthly briefing, allowing them to still be a part of the decision making process, but without all of the added stress.…

When establishing the job structure, I realized there was no need for the department to be part of the title. Although the duties might be different depending on their assigned department, the level of responsibility was approximately the same and jobs could be considered one generic position (i.e. “Team Member”). Therefore, I made the positions more general in title and chose to conduct a basic ranking method in order to determine the job structure.…

Creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers will help the business to grow because this newly created role will help to clear up time for Dalman to focus on the other aspects of his position. Since he is spending so much time on talking with location managers, other portions of Sandwich Blitz, Inc. could be suffering from it. Not only that, but adding in the factor that he is just one person makes is clear that a new level in management would help with growing the other managers into the best managers possible. Promoting an existing manger is a good option to fill this position as they are already very familiar with the organization. With the added benefit of having the experience of working in the role as manager to give them a better understanding and insight into what issues and problems can be found within a location.…

After reading the scenario, I think Dalman and Lei have a lot to think about. Before making any decisions Lei and Dalman should weigh their options. I think the strengths of expanding their businesses with two new franchise operations could save Dalman and Lei some money by working together with the new operations. They also wouldn’t have to worry about more competition when the new franchises open.…

The organizational structure at Kudler Fine Foods (“Kudler”) is both of vertical and horizontal dimensions. Kudler is a vertical dimension, because there are different levels within the organization. For example, the President makes the important decisions, like where Kudler will be heading to and how. There are also directors and managers that supervise different departments of the company. Directors and managers take responsibility for all the small decisions and for the day by day operations. Kudler is divided into different departments that with different functions. For example, the finance department is responsible for the accounting and financial statements that measure the performance and monitors the progress of the company. The operations department is responsible for providing the necessary support for Kudler’s customers; like, maintaining the products fresh and removing the old product from the shelves. The human resources department is responsible for fulfilling the planning and strategizing, organizing function of management. Specifically, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for forecasting employment needs. Further, Kathy’s involvement in all aspects of the company resembles a horizontal organization structure. In other words, Kudler’s organizational structure can easily have a problem of unity command, because Kathy (President) is not capable to delegating responsibility to her managers. Kathy is often working with low level employees, and giving them directions that often conflict with the given by their direct supervisor. Kathy’s micromanagement of Kudler causes confusion for the employees. Thus, it can be easily assumed that Kudler works under a horizontal organizational structure.…

While visiting all of their operating locations has heard how successful they have been using the team approach. If Dalman and Lei would assign managers under them they would be able to be more equipped to handle the daily activities of Sandwich Blitz. The self-managed teams would require training to be able to determine what type of training would help the handle the daily responsibilities. I believe that Joanna should recommend that Sam Wilson reorganize and restructure the department as a whole. They should assign roles to each individual depending on their job description, to avoid the problem of having some people doing more work than others. Also, the top management has to involve the department in decision making and engaging them in giving ideas and enhancing their services. For example, setting weekly or quarterly goals and trying to meet them. This step also allows the organization to evaluate themselves and knowing how they’re doing. The more the workers get involved in the strategic part of planning, the more they feel obliged to meet those goals and the more they feel loyal to the organization.…

Enerflex MEA’s company structure is pretty standard, however I feel we have some gaps in it. As we enter the last level mentioned in the table above, we have an O&M manager for each country in which we have operations. I see that all of these managers have different levels of experience and different areas of expertise. One of my suggestions has been to add a regional O&M Manager just underneath the Director of Services. This will allow the regional O&M manager to focus on all the O&M projects and implement consistency, and report to the Director of…

The company’s large operating dimension may as well be a drawback. Because the firm is geographically dispersed, its management is decentralized and wide in scale. In order to response to managerial problems at a more rapid rate, regional headquarters need to be set up. This has inevitably increased the level and width of management, making it harder for the top managers to articulate their thoughts to lower management levels. As a result, the overall management of the whole company may lose effectiveness.…
