    Sam Connolly Essay

Connolly has drawn some heavy-hitters to this project, from Hollywood traveler Sam Worthington in an uncharacteristically recessive lead role to local favorites Deborah Mailman and David Wenham in the supporting ranks and Eric Bana among the executive producers. But it’s the child actors, led by Ed Oxenbould as 12-year-old Dylan, who carry most of the weight. And while their handling of the over-written dialogue in Connolly and Steve Worland’s screenplay is short on naturalistic restraint, their tween peers in the audience will be unlikely to mind.…

It is a glimpse into how differently a father would raise his children if given a chance to do so without interference or boundaries. It reminds us that once parents learn to listen to each other instead of fighting with each other during divorce proceedings they will finally come around to doing what is best for their children. The movie introduces the viewers to the changing dynamic of the American family. Mothers are no longer stay at home moms who simply tend to children and cook meals. These days women like Miranda Hillard (Sally Field) are career driven heads of industries. It is also not uncommon these days to find a stay at home dad like Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams). The problem with this situation is that even though mothers bring home the bacon, they are still expected to come home and perform their wifely and motherly duties. Something that society has not once, throughout the history or marriages expected from the husband and father. Such a situation indeed takes its toll on any marriage and weakens the foundation of the…

Little Guy had been hidden from the reality of his family’s situation, having the bare minimum to try and survive from day to day. Getting an education was the main priority, while his parents somehow provided food on the table. Little Guy seemed confused when his father was about to jump out of the hot air balloon. When he approached the body, he was in a state of shock. Little Guy did not ask any questions after seeing his father’s body on the ground. All he uttered were the lines from his play that Guy was so proud of, in which Little Guy played Boukman, a slave revolutionary. Despair was apparent when “the boy continued reciting his lines, his voice rising to a man’s grieving roar” (Danticat…

Y tu mama tambien or And your mom too as the translation recites, really gives no sense at all if you have not seen the movie and even when seen , that detail is very easy to miss. As a first time audience I would expect it to be a drama. The movie is starred by Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. Both of these actors have been known in other roles, but none compared to this kind of presentation. I would see this as an effort to present two characters, previously known as young and innocent, then to place them in a real world setting where sex and alcohol is present every where. Maribel Verdu is a rather unknown Spanish actress. This was done perhaps to illustrate a beautiful girl, yet unknown to the public. This movie was said by many to be a XXX movie for its numerous and explicit sexual scenes. It was also rumored, that the two male protagonists would kiss in one of the sex scenes. My first impression would be that at the end, one the…

I found that the story "Homegirls" with Joshunda and Monique you don't notice a gap where social class is the issue, they actually don't differ that much. Yes, Joshunda comes from a family home, with a bit more of a family structure however; both girls don't have the presence of a male figure. Yes, Joshunda dresses nicely, but with her mom working a steadier job she’s able to afford a little nicer of clothing. Both girls live in similar living environments. Joshunda was better able to identify with Monique after she realized that she had similar circumstances as her. They foundation of their friend was ultimately based on similarities and not differences. I think social challenges are difficult if we allow for them to be. I think Monique wanted to be friends with Joshunda and realized that she was a girl in need, but more importantly that she was a good-hearted person.…
