Chapter 1

Introduction
A telecoms cabinet is an outdoor enclosure or metal box where telephone local loop wires and internet connection wires / optical fiber come together to be spliced into a larger cable that then runs to the Central Office. Telecoms cabinet provides physical protection to the structure and equipment against weather stresses. It also provides as an insulation against solar heating and helps to dissipate heat from the communications equipment inside it to the outside.
Telecoms cabinets are often the victim of vandalism and used for advertising posters and are not often maintained. Unauthorized persons sometimes open the telecoms cabinet by force, and without security and alarms, they can access it.
