D Halli Journey
From darker days come new possibilities
A journey begins with one step. And thus, we have started our journey to D J Halli.
During our journey, we have come across children needing essential nutrients; mothers in tears because they haven’t found a way to feed their children; the potential of youth buried; teenage girls fighting not to become brides; housewives without any choice peeling garlic day in and out – earning a pittance. The list is endless.
Our journey is to provide nutrition; bring smiles to the mothers; encourage the youth to explore their potentials; strengthen the hope of teenage girls to continue their studies and not become brides and build the skills of women to learn a skill and earn an income and be independent.
We hope

Many are aware of the nineteenth century aphorism, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” It is with similar principle that an Ohio farmer, Dan West, founded Heifers for Relief in 1944. In 1938, while ladling out milk to starved child refugees of the Spanish Civil War, West thought to himself, “These children don’t need a cup, they need a cow.” Heifer International is a nonprofit organization set with the perseverance of eradicating poverty and hunger through education, giving, and communal improvement. Not only does Heifer distribute livestock to needy families worldwide, but the esteemed organization also provides training in husbandry, with the intention of promoting self-sufficiency.…

How might we plot our escape from the nutritionist and, in turn, from the most harmful effects of the Western diet? To Denis Burkitt, the English doctor stationed in Africa during World War II who gave the Western diseases their name, the answer seemed straightforward, if daunting. “The only way we’re going to reduce disease,” he said, “is to go backwards on diet and lifestyle of our ancestors.”” (423) Which sums up fairly well that this point is that the problem is more about our current social structure when it comes to food. “For most people for most of history, gathering and preparing food has been an occupation at the very heart of daily life.”…

The warm sun rays beaming down on the emerald stalks of corn, the bright light radiating on rolling fields of amber grain. Children screaming in delight throughout the country sides and cities. During those sensational, amiable months of summer, tucked inside practically every newspaper are calendars touting seemingly endless opportunities to attend weekly farmers markets. A new movement, deemed locavorism, is digging its spurs in the ground and taking root in communities worldwide. Instead of relying on mass-produced, far-shipped foods for sustenance, a profusion of people are instead turning to foods grown/produced locally (about a 100 mile radius).…

Being a first generation college student from an immigrant family who deeply values community support, both my academic and personal experiences has guided me down this career path to community health promotion. As immigrants but also first generation, I’ve grown up in two different cultures that don’t always see a situation in the same light. Initially, it was hard to choose and pick which one was right or wrong. But, I’ve grown to not think of it as right or wrong but as good or bad, not weird or strange but as different. Everyone comes from different backgrounds with different perspectives that are all equally important to acknowledge. As a student, through the public health courses that I took, the thoughts…

Mother nature has the ability to give us all kinds of cures, it’s been used for thousands of years for healing and relieving our suffering. Even with all of the advances in 21st century medicine and knowledge, we still have all these problems in the world(Strumillo).
