The mechanical reaper harvests grain seven times faster than traditional methods with half the work force,…
The Federalists’ believe based on this document that the United Stated should advance their external trade more in manufactured goods instead of agricultural goods. Alexander Hamilton writes this “Report on Manufacturers,” document in hope of promoting the Manufacturing parts of the United States. He believes that this will expand trade as well as increase the United States independence when it comes to military and other essential supplies from foreign countries. Hamilton provides general comparisons between the farmer and the artisan. He says that agriculture is an occasional resource and depends on the season and it not a fully reliable source of goods.…
John Deere perfected the plow. Cyrus McCormick, in 1834, received a patent for a reaping machine, a horse-drawn device that allowed one man to cut and stack ten to twelve acres of grain in a single day. Samuel Colt made his mark on the firearms industry. He patented and manufactured a “six-shooter,” a pistol with a revolving cylinder which allowed a user to fire six times before reloading.…
Most important invention in the development of the factory was the steam engine patent in 1769 by James Watt the maker of mathematical instruments Glascow Scotland.…

The two articles “Hamilton’s Report on the Subject of Manufactures, 1791” and “An excerpt from The Report on the Subject of Manufactures” were especially helpful. I found it interesting that he promoted employing women and children in manufacturing jobs. When I learned about American History is the past it seemed like the Industrial Revolution was so seperate from the time of the founding fathers and Enlightenment, but Hamilton connects them.…
Charles Marion Russell was truly a notable creator and artist. Accomplished in not only one form of artistic creation, but excelled as a painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer. Born early in March 1864 on the edge of the western frontier in St. Louis, Missouri, a unique relationship with the wild American West sprouted. While in his youth, he gained a special love for the American West. Day dreams of the romantic life of cowboys and Indians filled his thoughts and sketchbooks. Daily, his desire would urge him into the rugged American West. Russell soon found himself deep within the Indian and cowboy rich state of Montana. While in Montana he learned the trade of the wrangler and ranch hand. Ever the artist at heart, Russell never abandoned his true love of sketching his new home and surroundings. This tutelage as a ranch hand, coupled with his ability to create would prove to be the perfect relationship for his later work as an artist.…
McCormick is a great influence to America. Becoming an inventor wasn’t his only achievement, he was and still is an inspiration. Cyrus was so passionate, determined, and ambitious in all his work. He loved what he did, and he always showed it. When he was young, he wanted to earn a million dollars, which at that time was an immense amount of money. With his own blood and sweat, Cyrus was able to do it- 26 years later. He has inspired many, putting so much effort into one small thing. He has said many times, even as his last words; “Work, work, work!” McCormick died at the age of 75 on May 13, 1884 in Chicago, Illinois. Till this day, we remember him as an inventor, a businessman, a worker, and an inspiration. The man who invented the reaper; Cyrus Hall…
Once just an ordinary high school student, Malcom McCormick has now become a multi-media rap star. He’s had a life full of ups and downs; his life is interesting, you might think he’s had it easy but he gave up a lot of things because of music. Malcom McCormick also known as Mac Miller, was born in Point Breeze, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Malcom has a few different alter- egos: which are Delusional Thomas, Larry fisherman, Larry Lovestein, and EZ Mac. His mother was Jewish and his father was a Christian, Malcom was raised Jewish and had a Bar Mitzvah.…
Innovations and inventions make a huge impact on work. Every day people attempt to create an impact in the world through these innovations or inventions. Many people have created an impact in different eras through their own ideas, innovations, or inventions, including Abraham Darby. Darby was an iron founder, copper smelter, brass manufacturer, but what Darby is best known for is his invention of coke as a source of fuel. This allowed Darby to make an impact during the Industrial Revolution. Without Darby’s findings of coke as a source of fuel, energy would have been much harder to find or to make to allow many factories to be in business as well as allow the electric machines to run.…
The expansion of textile manufacturing was not only important in its own terms but also as a stimulus to the machine tool industry. This industry began developing machinery for a wide range of industrial activities, as well as iron and steel production. A key element of the machine tool industry was its emphasis on interchangeable parts for machinery. Known as the American system of manufacturing, it entailed an increasing range of products manufactured by machines that turned out identical objects and could be operated by a minimally skilled operator. The skill needed was built into the machine.…
The process of milling and grinding grain to make flour was a long, labor-intensives, and dirty one. Evans, recognizing the opportunity to make grain milling more efficient, created what was essentially the first modern assembly line. A number of mechanisms in a row that were controlled by one worker and could do the work of five. This revolutionized the production and milling of grain, making the ordeal much more efficient and cost-effective. We often think of Henry Ford as the father of the assembly line, but it seems Oliver Evans beat him to the punch.…
To start off with we have Henry Ford. Technically Ford never invented the assembly line, but he was a sponsor who used it to the point where it became important. A car was a luxury for America before Ford came along, his company soon started to develop cars the average middle-class American could afford. This practice is now known as Fordism as Henry Ford was the first to make use of the tactic of mass production and low costs. Ford was a pioneer when it came to fair wage going as far as to pay his workers 5$ a day. The work week was also reduced to forty hours, five eight hour work days a week. Ford’s companies was also responsible for producing a number of war materials in World War Two at a rate that could rival the production of their Model T. When it came to the B-24 Bombers Ford’s factory at Willow Run was able to produce one bomber every 58 minutes, and ended up making about half of the total bombers. In the end Ford has been known to be a producer in American history, the first producer to make automobiles accessible, something many…
Do to the fact that Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin the South was then able to increase its cotton supply sending raw cotton north to be made into fabric. Francis C. Lowell increased the efficiency in the making of fabric by bringing spinning and weaving tools together into one factory. In 1846, Elias Howe created the sewing machine which revolutionized the manufacture of clothing. All of a sudden, clothing began to be made in factories as opposed to at home. Rising industries and factories led people to move from farms to cities. This led to other overcrowding and disease. However, agriculture got better including machines and cultivators. For example, Cyrus McCormick created the reaper which allowed for quick and cheap harvesting of grain. John Deere then created the first steel plow in 1837 helping speed farming across the Midwest.…
Many technological advances were starting to arise during the mid to late nineteenth century. Especially for farmers, equipments such as the reaper, plow…
