Cyrano Essay In this piece of literature Cyrano De Bergerac by Edmond Rostand exibits the plethora of ways dramatic irony has occured throughout the novel. Whenever the irony is demonstrated in the parts of a play, it applies a playful and entertaing toneto the play. We can see this occur many times in the play. the irony Edmond Rostand has demonstrated many times during the course of the book brings his reader many feelings and emotions. His irony delivers a sense of suspense wether or not Roxanne or whoever the character is, will find out about the true meaning. Cyrano is a huge part of this irony as it is the main story and main conflict in this piece of literature. Without this irony shown in the play aa numerous of times, the story and conflict would have been a whole different book. The tone it delivers also changes according to the type of irony in a specific part of the book. Edmond Rostand shows irony when Roxanne confesses her love not for Cyano, but for Christain. He states, "Ah, you wll... you will protect him for me?... i have always felt for ou the tenderest regard"(60 Rostand). This quote shows the irony that Roxanne is asking Cyrano to protect the man she "loves". But in the end she truly loves Cyrano. The tone this gives to his readers is somewhat depressing and sad, but at the same time brings asuspenseful and playful tone because Cyrano her true love has been there since the beginning All in all the irony shown through out the novel has brought a plethora of tones in the course of the book. It has shown us a playful, suspenseful, depressing, and saddening tone. All of those tones have contribute to the mainstoryline and conflict on the book. And the irony and tones it provides has a signified impact .
