Cynthia Cooper "She Got Game: My Personal Odyssey" summary and how it affects your life
Womens basketball is often overlooked and judged, little do people know how much of an impact it can have on a lady playing the sport. Most people think of basketball as a mans sport, and could never interpret the game from a female players perspective. In the autobiography "She Got Game: My Personal Odyssey" by Cynthia Cooper it shows the reader just that, the dedication being brought by a woman into the game of basketball. Cynthia Cooper is one the best female basketball players America has produced. In the past ten years she has accumulated MVP awards, scoring titles, gold medals, and championships. Cooper shares how she made it to the top of her profession after growing up poor in Watts and wining a scholarship to USC. She spent years on a European basketball court where she proved herself to be one of the best female basketball players of all time, culminating with Olympic glory and becoming a WNBA star. "She Got Game" is the story of a female gifted athlete that is living proof that hard work, commitment, and determination can pave the way for success no matter what obstacles are put in front of you.

I have been playing basketball basically my whole life, it is has shaped me into the person I am today. I started with just a ball and a hoop in my cousins front yard. I would just chuck the ball at hoop for fun, horsing around with my cousins. In elementary and middle school I would play with my friends at recess shooting around, dribbling in circles for the fun of it. High school was where it was taken to a whole 'nother level. I was introduced to the real dynamics of the sport, it was where I learned that if I really want to do something that I love I had to put my all into it. I had to prove that I was one-hundred percent committed to the game. Practicing everyday for two hours, and

Every winter, from 4th grade to my senior year, I would step out on the basketball court ready to give it everything I had to get better. I can still remember our coach putting the team through running drills hour upon hour to improve the shape we were in; all the other kids except my best friend and me would always complain about how they were tired and how they hated running, but my friend and I just loved bettering ourselves through conditioning and could never get enough. Through the years of the “pee wee” basketball days, game days, to me really weren’t that special but all that was about to change as the years went on.…

I have played, volleyball, basketball, and coed soccer. Playing sports and being part of a team for a long time can really show you how much people can change, mature, and develop into a different person. It really made me closer with some of the students in my class, just by car rides, practices, and seeing competitive sides of my teammates. Coed soccer has been especially fun. Getting to interact with boys and girls all together really changed, my outlook on being a “team.” Even losing most of our games, I have found an appreciation for the quote “you can’t win everything in life.” Sports have made me have the ability to work together and never give…
