Thesedays, this is a technology generation and technology becomes very important part of our life. We use technology for every activities a day, especially the internet network that many people nit only use it for contact each other via social media like Facebook, Twitter, email and other applications but also it is advantage for people to find out any informations what they want. Therefore, the Internet network has a lot of benefits and becomes a essential aspects for everyone in society. However, it is used for incorrect objective such as cyberbullying.
In the past, bullying happened in face to face situation but now the time have changed since the internet network has created and improved (Grabenhorst, 2012). Thus, it is easy to bully no social media and cyberbullying can be anonymous, people who are being cyberbullied may not even know who the bully is or specifically why they are being targeted (parentfurther, 2011). Social media are growing considerably and popular in society while cyberbullying is also widespread. For young age, they are familia with cyber in term of playing online games, sending text messages via messenger applications and using other social medias such as Facebook, email and Twitter (Ghosh, 2014). Although, people have many way to access social medias, all of them have similar opportunity to be cyberbullied by the bully. Cyberbullying includes things such as sending nasty text messages or emails, or setting up a hate group on a social networking site and other ways is posting about personal information such as photos of id card because the bully can take it to create fake account on social media. The bully may post something that makes other people misunderstand. The bullying may also happen 24 hours a day and the victims are often targeted even when they are in the comfort of their own home. Images and text messages can be circulated very quickly and widely on the Internet which makes it very hard to combat cyberbullying (chilnet, 2013).
One possible government response to cybrtbullying to make social media sites legally responsible for protecting their user, social medias could be doing more to block offensive remarks (children’s charity childscope, 2013). The fastest way to help people who are cyberbullied is social meadia sites have to block or delete harsh posts or fake accounts as soon as possible and increase the way for reporting and complaint when user see nasty massages or fake accounts. This is supported by BBC report, which found that the technology is that to outsmart cyberbullying, but this would require some investment from this site to implement (BBC, 2014). Therefore, the government may support money to improve technology system that can against cyberbullying by giving the short term of the low interest loan. In addition, the government on a federal, state, and local level has to responsibility to let communities know that this issue is a priority and will not be taken lightly (archive, 2009). All members in the society should be gotten informations about the correct steps when they see cyberbullying. When cyberbullying happens, it is important to document and report the behaviour so it can be addressed, for example users should not respond and forward cyberbullying messages but they should keep evidence of cyberbullying like the dates, times, and descriptions of instances when cyberbullying has occurred and use this evidence to report cyberbullying to web and cell phone service providers (stopbullying, n.d.)
Personally, I think that, it is duty of every people to against cyberbullying, although the government has main responsibility to protect every user who uses social media from the bully. If everyone in society helps each other to report when cyberbullying happens, the government and social meadia companies will can stop the bully in time.
