Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and robots and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. It is "the study and design of intelligent agents" where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1955, defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."

Artificial intelligence is used for logistics, data mining, medical diagnosis and many other areas throughout the technology industry. The success was due to several factors: the increasing computational power of computers, a greater emphasis on solving specific subproblems, the creation of new ties between AI and other fields working on similar problems, and a new commitment by researchers to solid mathematical methods and rigorous scientific standards.

Applications of AI
Artificial intelligence has been used in a wide range of fields including medical diagnosis, stock trading, robot control, law, scientific discovery and toys.

Banks use artificial intelligence systems to organize operations, invest in stocks, and manage properties. In August 2001, robots beat humans in a simulated financial trading competition. Financial institutions have long used artificial neural network systems to detect charges or claims outside of the norm, flagging these for human investigation. Creative Virtual has deployed artificial intelligence customer support systems, or automated online assistants, at E*TRADE, HSBC, Intuit and Lloyds Banking Group, to assist financial services customers with services such as checking an account balance, signing up for a new credit card or retrieving a forgotten password.

A medical clinic can use artificial intelligence systems to organize bed schedules, make a staff rotation, and provide medical information. Robots have become common in many industries. They are often given jobs that are considered dangerous to humans.Robots have proven effective in jobs that are very repetitive which may lead to mistakes or accidents due to a lapse in concentration and other jobs which humans may find degrading. Artificial intelligence is implemented in automated online assistants, used in answering machines of call centres, such as speech recognition software to allow computers to handle first level of customer support, text mining. BT Group has deployed heuristic search in a scheduling application that provides the work schedules of 20,000 engineers.

Various tools of artificial intelligence are also being widely deployed in homeland security, speech and text recognition, data mining, and e-mail spam filtering. Applications are also being developed for gesture recognition (understanding of sign language by machines), individual voice recognition, global voice recognition (from a variety of people in a noisy room), facial expression recognition for interpretation of emotion and non verbal cues. Other applications are robot navigation, obstacle avoidance, and object recognition.

When I became interested in computer science, one of the areas that intrigued me the most was that of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI was futuristic back when I first attended college and the ideas that surrounded it seemed unattainable and unrealistic. Today the development of AI has been achieved and continues to grow and expand into new uses.…

Artificial intelligence is a complex subject that requires some background information to fully understand. One of the earliest definitions of "true" artificial intelligence was proposed by Alan Turing with the Turing Test. The idea behind this test was to have a human ask both a computer and a human a series of questions and then see if the tester could tell which was the computer. The AI did not necessarily need to answer all the questions correctly, it just had to give an answer similar to that a human would give. The test would also be done via text so that the computer would not have problems with mimicking human speech. Very few AIs have passed the test with the first occurring in 2012 as it was judged to be human 52 percent of the time. The other major factor in determining a true artificial intelligence was the Chinese Room Experiments by John Searle as an expansion of the Turing Test. In this experiment, Searle wanted to test whether an intelligence was actually interpreting language or just…

Within the realm of Artificial Intelligence there are several secs which are responsible for making up that which is A.I. Normally when an individual thinks of Artificial Intelligence a few things come to mind such as the HAL 9000 system, known as “the inimitable star of the classic Kubrick and Clarke film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’”(Picard 2001), others will think of the movie “Blade Runner”, this film featured an alternate future where a group of individuals were responsible for tracking down cyborg humans known as “Sims” which were so human like they actually were unaware that they weren’t actually humans (Scott, Fancher et al. 2007). These films come to mind because until the late 2000’s this was the closest we ever got to Artificial Intelligence…

The use of technology has always been vital to the life and survival of the human race. Ever since the Neanderthals utilized wooden tools to hunt and cook 500,000 years ago, humans have been fascinated with developing the next cutting edge technology or invention. In 1955, John McCarthy used a term called artificial intelligence, and defined it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines". Over the last 60 years with the inventions of computers, cell phones, and the internet, artificial intelligence has become prominent in the news and in mainstream media. Today, the phrase is a hot topic, not just in tech circles, but around the globe, as many experts believe the ensuing breakthrough will come through A.I.…

As our minds evolve, so does our imagination and the creations we come up with. Artificial intelligence may have been first imagined as an attempt at replicating our own intelligence, but the possibilities of achieving true artificial intelligence is closer than any of us have imagined. Computers, when first invented were fast at computing data, but now they communicate and calculate data much faster than most human beings, but still have difficult fulfilling certain functions such as pattern recognition. Today, research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly, and many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, leaving human beings without work.…

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science, which concentrates on the intelligence of machines, and involves applying the principles of reasoning, knowledge planning, learning, communication, perception, and controlling objects to emulate the human brain. The most recognizable AI application is robotics from Hollywood cinema, and includes films such as; I Robot, Transformers, Wall-e, WarGames, A.I., The Terminator, Robocop, Iron Man, and Star Wars to name a few, which is fictional not an actual representation of AI. Robotics applications is only one of three aspects of AI, which also includes Cognitive Science applications, and Natural Interface applications, however, the area businesses are finding the most useful is the Cognitive Science applications (Murugavel, 2014).…

Under the background of Industry 4.0, governments are increasing their investment in research and development one after another, actively acting to push the development of artificial intelligence (AI) through public investment. It is, however, still a huge challenge for the industry to land and popularize AI. Statistics suggest that only 5% of the enterprises have applied AI to their products or businesses in large scale and there are still 80% enterprises not really starting. Intelligence terminals are expecting a bright prospect in promoting the large-scale application and popularization of AI.…

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents “where an intelligent agent is a system that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chances of success. John McCarthy, who coined the term in 1955, defines it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines. There are many definitions of AI. The basic objective of AI is to represent humans' thought processes in computers. These machines are supposed to exhibit behavior that, if performed by a human being, would be considered intelligent. An alternate definition, not covered in the text is by Astro Teller: Artificial intelligence (AI) is the science of how to get machines to do the things they do in the movies." On the other hand Wallace Marshal states that "Artificial stupidity (AS) may be defined as the attempt by computer scientists to create computer programs capable of causing problems of a type…
