Robots are machines endowed with sensing, information processing, and motor abilities. Information processing in robotic systems takes notably the form of perception, reasoning, planning, and learning, in addition to feedback signal processing and control. The coordinated exercise of these abilities enables robotic systems to achieve goal-oriented and adaptive behaviours. Communication technologies enable robots to access networks of software agents hosted by other robotic and computer systems. New generations of robots are becoming increasingly proficient in coordinating their behaviours and pursuing shared goals with heterogeneous teams of agents which include other robots, humans, and software systems.…

Robotics as a branch of mechanical, electrical and computer engineering deals with the design, construction, operation and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback and information processing. The technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior and / or cognition. The concept of creating machines that can operate autonomously dates back to classical times, but research into the functionality and potential…

In this paper, a review has been made regarding various current trends of robots in technological and classical world and future prospects in robotics. Most robots today are used in industrial situations where they weld and paint car bodies, load machines, and apply bead of sealant. Robots used to be just fun and were more toys for tinkerers and scientists. But now the robots are beginning to be seen from technological area to many social places. These mechanical humans are available in Japan, London, New York and even in India. The predictions are that robots in future would demand the same citizen’s rights as humans. Robots for classical applications have to be equipped with additional features to increase the efficiency and the possibility of usage. This paper tries to give an overview on the current and future directions in the robotics research and also enhance the robots applications in industries worldwide. Research going on the industrial robots is aimed at increasing the utility of these machines by:…

One of the most basic autonomous robot you can build is a line following robot(LFR). This type of robot is run over a white surface which has an arbitrary path drawn over it by using back paint. The task of the robot is to run exactly along this painted path. You may note that the surface may also be black(or any other dark colour), in that case the path is a light colour like white. Please watch the following video for a LFR in action.…

We arrived at our first establishment, the Ateneo De Davao University (ADDU) at around 8:00 – 8:30 A.M. We have been divided into two groups by Ma’am Novie Joy Pelobello. The first group where I belong went to their Integrated Systems Laboratory. Ma’am Nadela, the in-charge of the said laboratory, first introduced their networking equipment such as the different types of series of routers. She also introduced to us the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robots made from NXT Technology. As what she discussed, NXT is the brain of a MINDSTORMS® robot. It’s an intelligent, computer-controlled LEGO® brick that lets a MINDSTORMS® robot come alive and perform different operations. These robots have these following features; first, the Touch Sensor that gives the robot sense of touch. It detects when it is being pressed by something and when it is released again. Second is the Ultrasonic Sensor that gives your robot ability to see and detect objects. You can also use it to make your robot avoid obstacles, sense and measure distance, and detect movement. Third is the Color Sensor that enables your robot to distinguish between colors and light and dark. It can also be used as a color lamp. Lastly, the Interactive Servo Motors that give your robot the ability to move. It has a built-in rotation sensor that lets…
