Curley Wife In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

In John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” Curly wife is shown as a person with very little power and she is shown to have no control. She uses her beauty as a strength. This situation foreshadows her death because of her flirtatious sense of personality; she was purposely flirting with Lennie and he was not stable enough to handle this. Her mother makes the situation worse by telling her that she couldn’t be an actress this brings down her self-esteem making her believe that she could never amount to anything making her the way she was.

Curley's wife did not have a lot sympathy directed towards her. Everyone kind of saw her as a gold digger, she never really had a chance. No one actually got to know her, so they all just assumed she was a bad woman. When George said “Jesus, what a tramp” that is him clearly stating that he did not like her. Every man in Of Mice and Men thought that she wanted to sleep with them. Maybe it was the way she walked around or what other people thought of her. So yes, Curley’s wife was objectified as a women.

With Curley’s wife acting the way she did, her death was foreshadowed. The only person she could really talk to was Lennie, and he was not really stable. She did die in a sad way. “Let go!”, this is when Curley’s wife started to wrath
Females have very fragile self esteems. So when her mom told her she could not be an actress it just crushed her. “But my ol’ lady wouldn’t let me”, you can feel the emotion coming from her voice when Curley’s wife says this. Curley’s wife actually wanted to do something good with her life. Once she learned that she could not do that she just had her expectation level so low. She did not really care who or what she married, she just wanted to be or feel wanted/loved. So that little thing from her mom just ruined her life. She started feeling like she had a low life so that is what she started looking for and that is why she married
