Cultural Diversity Week One

1. Some cultural diversity examples are, but not limited to; Geographic location, military and work experience, family status, income, religion, languages, and education.

2. I identify mostly with members of a less elite group of people. These members are not recognized by their race nor are judged by what they have done in their past but are praised by what they are doing in their present time and in their future. My social circle all represent one thing and one thing only, Jesus Christ and it is open to whomever wants to be our friend! I connect with the people at church more than anyone right now and that is just because I am still trying to find out who I am and where I am headed.

3. The difference between diversity and inclusion had given me a hard time trying to differentiate the two between gender, sexual preferences, and disabilities on a baseline for what the outline represented as a huge difference. Although I concluded that diversity is your gender, work experience, family status and etc. to where inclusion means taking all of that diversity and using it to “include” everyone and each individuals abilities and not excluding them from the group.

4. I believe it is very important for a workplace to acknowledge the diversity amongst them and the great gifts that everyone has to offer because of that. Using a training video to point out that everyone is not the same may seem a bit childish at the moment but I have seen it firsthand where it has helped a lot of conflict between individuals be handled and l personally think diversity is a great thing in America and that God created us all equal and we just have to tap into our own abilities to strive above with the rest as a whole.

5. When I was in the military, I met people from all over the world from all different backgrounds and walks

"Diversity" has become one of the most often used words of our time-- and a word almost never defined. Diversity is invoked in discussions of everything from employment policy to curriculum reform and from entertainment to politics. Nor is the word merely a description of the long-known fact that the American population is made up of people from many countries, many races, and many cultural backgrounds. All that was well known long before the word "diversity" became an insistent part of our vocabulary, an invocation, an imperative, or a bludgeon in ideological conflicts.…

In simple terms, cultural diversity can be defined as the level of diversity or difference in a given society. Societies that display high levels of diversity exhibit many differences across that population. Differences can include skin color, religious affiliation, cultural practices and other ethnic beliefs and customs. Immigration is a major factor in determining the level of diversity that a given society is exposed to. Ever since the dawn of time, humans have traveled the globe in curiosity to interact with other civilizations. These interactions were either well intentioned to share and form partnerships, or militaristic conquests to expand territories and force populations to conform to foreign ideals. These such interactions helped to foster cultural diversity both genetically, as is the case with Attila the Hun, or substantively through the spread of cultural beliefs and practices worldwide.…
