Cuban Holidays Research Paper
Cuba Holiday - A Trip to Guama Cuba holidays are always my first choice for a relaxing vacation. Last March, I decided to take a break from the long Canadian winter and travel to Cuba on holidays. It was an on the spot decision, so I didn't have much time for planning. I had already been to Cuba on holidays several times, but it was the first time I travelled to Cuba on my own, with no excursion, no hotel reservation and with not even a clear idea of where I was heading, just open to any suggestion and any change in plans.

I arrived to Havana City late in the afternoon and some Cuban friends welcomed me at the airport. I always travel to Havana on my Cuba holidays, maybe because Havana is no doubt my favorite Cuba holiday destination. After a couple of days walking along Old Havana streets, enjoying the sunsets at Malecon, dancing to the rhythm of Cuban music and listening to Cuba Jazz bands at Havana Jazz Café, we decided to rent a car and take a tour on our own from Havana, south to Trinidad. I rented a car and my friend George agreed to drive. He is a very good driver and I didn't feel

We got on the car and headed to Guama, our first place stop on my Cuba holidays after leaving Havana and one of top Cuba attractions not so far from the capital city. Guama is a natural place in the Marsh of Zapata, south of Matanzas. We arrived to Guama at about 9 o'clock in the morning and got a boat to go to one of the islands in which 26 sculptures made by Cuban artist Rita Longa recreate life of first Cuba inhabitants in a small village. This island is located in La laguna del Tesoro (the Lagoon of the Treasure) which is said to have been called like that because of a treasure Indians living in this area threw to the waters of the lagoon so Spanish didn't keep it for themselves. Keep in mind that Cubans call Indians those native inhabitants that lived in the island before the Spanish conquerors

I believe one good idea for Hispanic Heritage Month would be to expand and seek co- sponsorship from different organizations on campus to alleviate the costs that come along with events and receive different perspectives of how an events should be ran. Also, a greater number of organizations would mean a larger audience and more volunteers and participants to aid with development of an event. Since I’m applying for the Assistant Pageant Director, high quality photos should be taken at the event by asking other students if they have a professional camera, I own one of these type of cameras, and also setting up a photo booth area with a wide range of props. Also, having a hashtag for the event such as #HHMPageant or #MrHSA&MsHSA to increase…

Miami, FL is a place that has to be felt rather than seen or heard—and by that I mean observed beyond all senses, with mind, body, heart, and soul. I’ve been entrenched in it my whole life, a little Cuban princesita not so different from all the rest, but it’s only as I’ve gotten older that I’ve fully felt like a part of a community, a culture. I feel it when I talk, casually, to the elderly cashier at my neighborhood grocery store, a familiar combination of Spanish, English, and what many call cubanismos, phrases with meanings that simply will not tolerate literal translations, spilling forth. I feel it while seated at a table of no fewer than four relatives on any given evening, judging the quality of a restaurant on the quality of their flan de caramelo or their café. I feel it, too, in the colorful songs of Ernesto Lecuona and the ardent verses of José Marti, but most of all in the anecdotes of my grandparents and great aunt, the nostalgia of long-settled immigrants, echoes of sorrow, shared over dominoes and rice and beans and coladas of espresso.…

The Cold War, which took place from 1949 to 1991 was a very tense time between Soviet Russia and the United States of America (Trueman, What was the Cold War). Both countries were constantly at odds and willing to attack each other with nuclear weapons due to their differences in political, economic and social beliefs. While Soviet Russia believed that communism was the best social, political and economic ideology for the world to follow the United States believed capitalism was the best ideology and that communism was the enemy to democracy. Although the Cold War was a proxy war the differences between Soviet Russia and the United States caused the countries to begin battling for world domination. At this time, the United States considered…
