CSR ACTIVITIES OF ITC

ITC Limited was incorporated on August 24,1910 under the name of ‘Imperial Tobacco Company of India Limited at Radha Bazar Lane,Kolkata.Later it was renamd as “Indian Tobacco Company.”in 1974.It is one of the Indias’s foremosrt private sector companies with a market of approx $14 billion.Its range of products includs:Cigerettes & Tobacco,Hotels,Information Technology,Paperboards & Speciality Papers,Agri-Exports,Foods,Lifestyle Retailingand Greeting Gifting & Stationary. Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and society at large" CSR-Corporate social responsibilitie’s undertaken by ITC are e-choupal,Social & Farm Forestry,Watershed Development, Agicultural Productivity,Women’s Empowerment, Livestock Development and Primary Education E-Choupal: E-Choupals information centers eqipped with a computer connected to the internet,located in rural farming villages. E-Chouopals serve both as social gathering place for exchange of information and an e-commerce hub. A local farmer acting as a sanchalak(coordinator) runs the village e-choupal.and the computerr usually is locate in the sanchalak’s home.E-choupal helps the farmers in the production of farming by giving latest information on gistrictlevel weather forecasts for short and mediam terms,suppling the quality seeda in village,Improving the price realisation by making available live data on markets,international market prices of relavet agri commodities,Expert opinion,up to date information on supply & demand etc.

Social & farm Forestry: ITC’s social forestry programme addresses the problems of marginal farmers and the ecological imperative
