Cryoconite Holes Are Polluting The Earth's Icebergs
Billions of Cryoconite holes are polluting the Earth’s icebergs. Cryoconite is made from a combination of desert dust, mixed with flakes of carbon, soot from wildfires, diesel exhaust, and coal-fired power plants. Cryoconite is a thick leaching black substance that absorbs the sun’s heat and speeds the melting process. Cryoconite is a toxic product of human industrialization. It is a bewildering concept to try to understand that humans have the capability of changing the basic chemistry of this massive planet. However, climate change is a concept that must be acknowledged; scientific evidence has revealed the consequences of rising sea levels, deforestation, and pollution. Climate change is not a matter of politics. Climate change is a matter of science. Icebergs three-times larger than the island of Manhattan are crumbling into tiny blocks of ice and floating away into the ocean. Glaciers that once stood as incredible monuments of ancient times are falling into the earth and dying. The melting icebergs are causing a rise in sea levels that threaten to wash away our population. This is a result of the excessive amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases we emit into the atmosphere. We are causing the Earth to warm at an alarming rate. Burning fossil fuels demolishes the ecosystem needed to …show more content…
The atmosphere is choking from excessive amounts of carbon dioxide. Greenhouse gases are melting polar icecaps and rising sea levels. Deforestation is diminishing our chances of ever discovering new species in forests and destroying the carbon cycle. Humans do in fact have the capability of changing the basic chemistry of this massive planet. Scientific evidence shows that we have already contributed to irreversible climate change. Humankind has an obligation to reconcile its difference with the environment and learn to conserve natural resources. Conservation begins with knowledge, which leads to action, which will save our

Obviously, global change is definitely a massive issue that we as humans should handle in the near future. To start off with, global climate change is a severe change in weather patterns around the globe that affect thickness in the atmosphere, temperatures, precipitations, water levels, and food growth. In addition, this change greatly contributed to the increases levels of carbon dioxide concentrate produced by the use of fossil fuels. To support this claim, one way the global climate has been changing is shown on a graph measuring the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration existing which states that, “carbon dioxide concentration changed in the 20th century compared to Earth in the past based on the chart because the line…

Climate Change is not a new issue. There have been attempts all throughout the latter half of the 20th century to curb the effects of climate change, and some of them have even been somewhat successful. Extremely accurate measurements regarding the amount of CO2 present in the atmosphere have been taken since 1958 at the Mauna Loa Observatory, and the upward trend of the data gave us notice half a century ago about the changing of the climate. With this notice, several efforts have been made in the past, such as the Kyoto treaty to curb the emissions of these globe warming molecules. With new developments, such as massive superstorms and 100 year storms happening every 5 years, this issue has come to the public eye, and it has fallen upon the…

Unless you live under a rock, you will have noticed what’s happening around the human race due to global warming and climate modification. It is not only affecting us humans, it is also affecting our vegetation, our animals, and our oceans. I recently watched a video by National Geographic about the precious coral reefs in the Florida Keys and it talked about how the coral reefs cannot keep up with the rising sea level, so eventually they will all just die (“Fighting to Save Coral in the Florida Keys”). Additionally this will lead to habitat loss and then species dying off. If this scenario belonged to one area it would be tragic but climate change is disrupting habitats and killing off dependent mintage humanity worldwide.…

Because of the climate change, the earth is in danger. People don’t realize that the things they use or do every day are hurting the earth and living things. Nature.org says, “…one-fourth of Earth’s species will be headed for extinction by 2050 if the warming trend continues at its current rate…” Because the temperature is increasing, ice is melting. Because ice is melting, sea levels are rising. Higher temperatures don’t only melt ice but evaporates the moisture in the air. Evaporation will take away all of the land’s water leaving it as dry as a desert. With a drought now in progress, it will make it harder to find water and support agriculture.…

Although global temperatures fluctuate naturally, over the past 50 years the average global temperature has augmented at its fastest rate in recorded history. The emission of greenhouse gasses such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrous Oxide (N2O) and Methane (CH4) render the Earth’s atmosphere more transparent to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted and reflected from the planet's surface (NASA Earth Observatory). With this extra heat trapped within the atmosphere, the temperature of the surface of the planet increases very slightly over hundreds of years. However these small incremental increases in the Earth’s surface temperature accumulates to an amount which can severely effect the climate of the planet.…

If we don’t do anything about this soon, the planet we call home could turn to chaos. If we fund money and time into helping our environment and various climates by being more energy efficient, we can make a difference. I urge you to spend just a little more time and money into helping slow global warming down by conserving water, planting more trees, recycling and reducing your waste. Also, scale down on your use of fossil fuels and other malignant toxins that are heating our atmosphere. By doing this, we will be able to bring climate change to an…

Global warming is currently the most controversial issue. The debate over global warming has been going all around the world and it seems endless. Depending on one's political view, whether a person is a liberal or a conservative may consider global warming as the biggest challenge facing humanity or one may dismiss, saying it is not real or may simply claims global warming is a hoax. However, there are strong, credible evidences that indicate the extreme and unpredictable weather pattern we have been witnessing like extreme heat, drought, storm , retreating glaciers and the melting of the arctic sea ice, and rising sea level due to climate change caused by human activities. Governments and people around the world should hold hand in hand…

In a poll conducted by expert Michael Bastasch, 91% of Americans aren’t worried about climate change, but little do they know that our planet is going through a disastrous process that we have caused and that it could potentially end up killing us. This process is climate change. Although the rates at which our planet is warming are very slight, this slight warming can have a huge impact.…

Climate change is an incredibly serious issue with so many hazards and risks. If we let it go any further than it already has, it will ultimately lower the quality of life on earth, as well as cause several more problems, as if we already don’t have enough. Yes, it will be much warmer, and eventually we will have fantastic weather a majority of the time, however the amount of disadvantages far outweigh the good. An abundance of animals will slowly begin to go extinct, and as the title entails, devastating climate issues will arise, like more droughts in southern regions, much more precipitation in higher regions, as well as other occurrences like forest fires and hurricanes. It’s easy to disregard these matters, since all of this seems like a slow process and it hardly affects us now. Yet, as the technology industry continues to develop, and the need for polluting factories increases, we’ll be getting closer and closer to destroying the easy way of life on this planet. Perhaps in our lifetime, we won’t be able to witness the extreme effects of climate change, although if we keep doing what we’re doing, our future generations will not be in for an easy ride.…

When asked the question about climate change, most people tend to have heard about the topic, but people do not know about what is happening to the earth. Climate change is defined as general increase in the earth’s temperature over a defined period of time, which are caused by humans and by nature, of increased levels of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Over the course of human history climate change has been watched and recorded to track the changes. In the last 30 years, there have been increases in general global temperatures which at the same period seen an increase in destruction of the rainforest, and increase in industrialization production, namely in automobile manufacturing.…

Climate change has been a controversial topic for the past few years and this is a topic that needs to be addressed immediately. Even though there are people in the world who say climate change does not exist or that climate change is a hoax to make people buy certain products, the end result is true. Climate change will kill the human race and everything else on the planet. We can see the effects of climate change now with the temperatures rising, the arctic and land ice decreasing as time goes by, this is not caused naturally. In fact, we can show proof since the industrial age the sudden spike in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. With carbon dioxide the highest it’s ever been in 650,000 years. This is causing sea levels to rise as well…

Glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, cloud forests are drying, and wildlife is scrambling to keep pace. It's becoming clear that humans have caused most of the past century's warming by releasing heat-trapping gases as we power our modern lives. Called greenhouse gases, their levels are higher now than in the last 650,000 years.…

An issue in today’s world is the environment. There is dispute over what we should do about it. One issue in the environment is global warming. Global warming has become a problem around the world; it is caused by CO2 emissions and other gases in the atmosphere that cause the sun’s thermal energy to be absorbed, otherwise known as the greenhouse effect. Studies have shown that at least 20% of ice on Earth has melted since 1979. Although it may not sound so bad, every year we deplete the natural ice on Earth by using CO2-emitting machines such as vehicles, factories, and other heavy machinery. The depleting may accelerate until all naturally-made ice caps and glaciers are gone. Ocean levels will rise sky-high from the melted ice.…

Finally, the decimation of global warming is one of the most serious environmental issue. Many scientists believe that our production of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is having a heating effect. On the atmosphere, this could be very dangerous for human life. There are several things that we can do the solve problems of global warming. First solution is to stop producing carbon dioxide. We can do by switching from oil, coal, and gas to renewable energy. Another solution is to plant more trees. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Last solution is to use less energy…
