In my opinion John Proctor, was a good man. I say this because even though he did cheat on his wife, he still loved her and still took care of her and their children. If he was a bad man he would’ve ran off with Abigail to Barbados, but instead of running he lived through his punishment of death. Another reason he was a good man is because he never lied after he cheated. For instance when he was able to be free if he confessed to witchcraft, he did not confess because he did not want to lie he wanted to stay an honest man as long as he lived.
A third instance of his goodness is when he confessed to the judge about him committing adultery with Abigail. I see this as goodness because it shows that he was willing to get punished for the crime of adultery in return for the safety of his wife. Overall i think a good person is one who is honest, respectful, and loyal and John Proctor fits two of those three characteristics so he is a good person.

Compare / Contrast The Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy era are two different events that have so much in common. The Salem Witch Trials were trials for those who have been accused of being witches. During the McCarthy era people were being put on trial for being communist. These are similar because during their times both witches and communist were feared by the public.
If you were accused of being a witch or communist you would be put on trial and proving yourself of not being what you're being accused of was very difficult. In salem it was hard because of spectral evidence or evidence only visible to the accuser. With McCarthy it was hard because of the fear everyone had against communist and even you were slightly suspected it was very easy to fit the characteristic of being a communist. In addition to the similar trials. Both the accusers in Salem and with McCarthy targeted high ranking or noble people. In salem, reverends, large

In neither McCarthyism nor the Salem witch trials were real evidence put forth to prove the guilt of the accused. Instead, people readily agreed with the accusers, having to assume that they were telling the truth. In the fifties, with the war going badly in Korea, the communists were making advances in China and Eastern Europe, which caused the American public to be scared of communists infiltrating the U.S. government. Hundreds of people- actors, government workers, and even military personnel, were accused by McCarthy (Joseph McCarthy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Some admitted to being affiliated with the communist party, and lost their jobs. In 17th century Salem, the girls would completely fabricate evidence against the witches.…

Both witch hunts in Salem in 1692 and McCarthy's search for Communists in the 1950’s are similar they both involved conflict and superstition. William had 205 people on his list of people who are communists. Just like in the Salem Witch hunt they didn’t have proof that the where witches other than that they were acting up but that didn’t show that they were witches. McCarthy didn't have proof that the communist that where on the list, he didn’t have proof if they were communists or not. With McCarthy looking for communists, surprisingly more than 2,000 employees lost their jobs. In the Salem Witch Hunt a lot of people were accused and they didn't know if the people who were accused where witches or not instead of people losing their jobs, people…

I think the best case scenario for John Proctor is he is a man and for a long time his wife was sick, and could’nt give him what he desired so their love grew apart and he had to look elsewhere and he did’nt have to look very far and he looked toward his maid Abigale Williams for she was attracted to him and it made the whole incedent all the more harder to refuse and and then he realized the mistake he had made as his wife was getting better she shunned Abigale from her household, but Abby did’nt go quietly and she is still trying to minipulate John into leaving his wifeand it was making her more minipulative because she knew he would not leave his wife without somekind of “Brain Washing”. And that is how I think John Proctor is a very good, and honest man because he saw his mistake although it was to late he did’nt run from the problem or give into temptation he faced it like a strong man and starred it down in the face and dealt with the problem from it’s source.…

First, John Proctor was well-respected in many ways. One reason is how he was well-respected by the people in the community and how he respects them because he doesn’t speak upon anyone else’s sins nor their name. An example from the book is when John Proctor said “I speak my own sins, I cannot judge another. I have no tongue for it.” (131.) He feels that he doesn’t need to speak upon anyone else’s mistakes or accuse them of doing witchcraft. John Proctor is also well-respected because he is a hard-working man who is very independent and values honesty.…

The equivalent of the Witch Trial jury during the Red Scare was the committee that charged people of communism. It was named the House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC). They sought out people whom they thought were either communist or a threat to the integrity of America. People were called before the committee if they had any previous connection with communist activities. In the late 1940's, a senator by the name of John McCarthy began what was known as blacklisting. The people, who were believed to be a communist, were added to a list that rendered them shunned and they had to pay a fine of $500. Many of these…

In Arthur Miller’s tale of Witch hunts conducted in Salem during the 16th century in “The Crucible” he uses it as an allegory to show that sometimes the people who suffer the most during conflict actually are the most innocent. The story relates to a 1950’s America as Senator Joseph McCarthy would Blacklist innocent people for being “communists” due to little to no evidence and the person having a few opposing traits to him like being Liberal, Chinese, or speaking out against him. The public were okay with this of course, seeing how there was that much fear being spread and rumours of Russian communists taking over the country forced people to do whatever they could to save their “freedom”-even if they had spoken out against McCarthy for what he was doing, they probably would have been blacklisted themselves. This suffering relates back to the innocent people in Salem who refused to confess that they were Witches and were therefore jailed and some executed. The people who remained as not charged of being a witch still refused to speak out as they would be charged and persecuted also. More than one person suffered when it came to these conflicts, and it is sad to see how regardless that these two events in history were close to 400 years apart- human kind hadn’t changed, but instead repeated itself.…

From 1692 to 1693, a series of witchcraft accusations occurred to explain the unexplainable problems and issues. This was known as the Salem Witch Trials. During this time period, many people were accusing others as witches and many were also accused as witches. At first, it was only to get back at a rude neighbor, but it soon began to become a phenomenon as the witchcraft hysteria spread. Women in Salem were more likely than men to be both the accused and accuser because of misogyny that promoted men’s superiority, thus degrading women’s social and economic standing in society and encouraging the idea of women's inferiority.…

From about 1480-1700, many individuals in Europe were accused of being witches, put on trial, prosecuted and later executed for witchcraft. This witch craze was concentrated in southwestern Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Poland, and parts of France, and resulted in 100,000 witches put on trial. The three main reasons for the persecution of these “witches” were economic greed, religious beliefs and social prejudices.…

When most people come across the term, witch hunts, they have the common propensity to imagine Satanism, witches brewing magical potions, and the Salem Witch Trials. The McCarthy Witch Hunts usually aren’t the first thing to pop up in their heads. During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s while the United States of America was fighting in the Cold War against the Soviet Union with hopes of protecting its sovereignties and freedoms, the growing fear of Communism and rising popularity of Anti-Communism threatened both the freedoms of individuals in America and the existing capitalist economic system. Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin had manipulated these fears and used them to justify his claim for power and fame. He began “witch hunts”, the seeking out of supposed threats to the United States. The…
