Cross Country Sectional Meet Reflection
October 29, 2016 I was competing in the IHSA cross country sectional meet in an effort to advance my team to the state finals which was the following week. I finished the race and was immediately rushed to an urgent care facility where I found out I had pneumonia. The week leading up up to the race I was home sick several days with an upper respiratory infection but knew I had to get back to training in order to support my team as I was the number three runner. Seven days later I raced at the State Meet still severely hindered by the effects of pneumonia, and ran minimally one minute slower than what I had trained to run. As a runner, the sport is year round, with competitive training beginning in January for track through summer into the

In 2008, I was a eight year old and, regrettably, a member of the Saint Joseph Cross Country team. I consistently finished in the last five runners, and despised every moment that I spent training for the race season. Even though I began running cross country in elementary school, I was never a natural. After years, I was allowed to quit. By the time I was a freshman in high school, I had forgotten my hatred of running. After much enticement from my mother - a runner herself - I joined Bowling Green High School’s Cross Country team. Halfway through the first practice, I remembered every reason why I had quit the sport years earlier. Regardless of how much I begged my mom, she insisted that I finish the season. I was stuck with two choices:…

As a resource, Ms. Pancake had proposed to micro manage my efforts to ensure the conceptual understanding of my responsibilities and I agreed. We had arranged to do so on Wednesday, December 7 as it would be less strenuous on her time schedule. This was to give her the opportunity to complete her required closing processes, while demonstrating to them that I was competent with my allotted tasks by completing them in the time requested. She and Mr. Rackers had accepted my proposal. As the day came, she was resolving an issue from the previous accounting week, and was speaking with Mr. Whittaker about invoicing. After speaking with him, she had walked back to office, but stopped by my cubicle to check my progress. The conversation went…

I was a Freshman on the Salem Varsity Gymnastics team, and practice consisted of preparing the team for regionals. An unknown pain in my back wound me up in the trainer's office for an hour of the two and a half hour practice. After finishing the season strong, even though I wanted to give up countless times, pushing myself to work through the pain paid off at regionals. Even though I should have stopped because I made the pain and recovery time longer, I refused to give up on my team the week before regionals. The minute season ended, I decided to go see my doctor, he said I pulled a muscle, and the solution was rest, heat, and ice.…

The workshop opened my eyes and help me understand how the people of the Cree Nation are living in the reserves. The reserves lack the adequate services, have limited accessibility and employees have insufficient training. There are no birthing services in their community and the pregnant are forced to fly to Thompson alone without any family or close peers to support them. I learned that the people of the Cree Nation values the process of birthing and dying significantly and all of the community gets together to celebrate life. Moreover, most youths age out of the system as they are repeatedly admitted, and their cases are usually not followed through. The type of care they receive are temporary and is considered…

My RCS Capstone Experience challenged me by forcing me to speak infront of a large group of people, who have had more years of experience than I have. Also a physical challenge for I had to develope my upper body strength for the training I had to endure. Both of these things pushed me out of my confort zone, but in the long run I know they will be valuable skills for the future. I have been a volunteer at Jacobs Creek Fire Department for three years, but even with these years there is still always room for improvement. This topic is important to me because the people in my station are like family to me. I know even on my worst of days that they will always have your back. In addition being in the fire department brought me and my dad closer,…

The only problem was my phone, backpack, all my football gear was still at the field. I remember wishing my mom was here and soon enough my mom came into the room. I was so happy she came because I didn't know anyone there and it was scary being alone. Not a single coach came with me. After the doctors said that I am good to leave we soon left. The doctors said to not do any activities in a week. With that being I gave it a week but I should have waited some more time.…

Coming up on the ASAA Track and Field championships, I developed achilles tendonitis which inevitably ruined my high school running career. I couldn’t believe that me of all people had gotten injured. I was very involved with injury prevention and performed strengthening exercises, stretches, made safe decisions, and had very a very healthy diet on a daily basis. Over the next eighteen months I visited over six different experts who claimed that they recognized my injury and knew how to treat it. After nearly three months without any noticeable improvement I began to conduct my own research and try to correct my problem myself. I developed a keen interest in the field of rehabilitation and the many mysteries that the body held. When the time…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…

Unfortunately, halfway through the season I was unable to play: the pain and discomfort were occurring too often and were disrupting my every activity. My coach was cold and focused on winning and when he noticed me faltering on the field, he pulled me out for the rest of the season. For the next 6 weeks, I spent nearly every day standing by the bench in the cold October weather, forced to support my teammates this way.…

Over the hot summer, I was doing summer workouts for soccer. My goal this year was to make the varsity soccer team and I knew I could do it with the support from my coaches and peers. My coach had said about a month before workouts started, “You have a really good chance at making varsity this year” and this made me want to work even harder in the coming months of workouts. We had been working out for about three months now starting in around February with the indoor soccer practices and each and every day was hard on us all. Workouts were tough on everyone because of all the cardio and strength training we did as well as working on ball skills. Every day over the summer I would arrive home to find myself going right back to my comfy, warm…
