There are 22 species of extant crocodilians in the order crocodylia which are quite are similar. The crocodilians are subdivided onto three families according to their various morphological which are as follows:
a) Alligatoridae
- The caimans (Caiman, Palaeosuchus, Melanosuchus)
- The alligators ( Alligator)
b) Crocodylidae
- True crocodiles (crocodylus)
- Dwarf crocodiles (osteolaemus)
c) Garialidae
- Gharial Garialis
- False gharial Tomistoma.
