Avenue Q show critique

I went and saw Avenue Q the day it started. I went into the show not knowing anything about Avenue Q. I had no idea it was a musical and I really wasn’t expecting it to be puppets. To be honest when I first saw that it was puppets I almost walked out, but the show completely surprised me. My favorite aspects of the show were the acting and the set.
I don’t know too much about acting but from my experience I think the actors did a great job. I didn’t see any actors try to over play the part. One of the actors went to my high school, and he did a great job. The play had a great humor, I felt like I was laughing the whole time. I thought all of the actors had great singing voices. The one thing I didn’t like were the puppets. I was too distracted by the actors so I never really looked at the puppets.
Another main part about the musical that I really liked was the set. The set was amazing I loved the building’s, it looked just like buildings you would see in New York. In high school I took theatre tech so I know how much work it takes to build a set like that. The musical also had great lighting; The lighting change went well with every scene.
Overall I thought that the musical was very good. I really enjoyed watching it and I look forward to seeing another production put on by Texas Tech. It was a great performance that included good acting, quality singing, and a great set.

If I could go back I wish that I could have been a part of the show, the show was intriguing and very funny.I would have love to play one the hair stylist, they made me laugh during their show. One part of the special effects that I enjoyed was the Fog machine it gave that part of the show a very mystical feel. My favorite part of this experience was being able to see my friends onstage performing and enjoying themselves. If I could have redone this production I wouldn't have done anything different, the whole performance was very enjoyable. I had so many favorite characters, they were all so great, One of my favorite would have to be Helene the whole time I was rooting for her to get her love. Another character that had me laughing was turtle, the way she would speak and her whole performance had me laughing. This was one of my favorite production i’ve seen put on by Southview…

As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. I also saw many people from different age groups; this gave me a feeling that the show would be entertaining enough to get people from all ages to come and see the show. The environment of the theatre was very formal, as there was a red and gold layout and it was also very clean.…

I enjoyed the play because the story and music is very interesting, unique and entertaining. I have seen the play before in Las Vegas and I must say that the cast in Las Vegas was much better than the one I saw on Thursday night. The reason is because it went more in-depth with the story and also played every single hit that the band had made. Also, the singers in Las Vegas were much more professional and sounded better because the actor portraying Frankie Valli did not have such a high pitched voice as the one in Curran Theatre. My favorite composition from the band was Beggin because the tempo and beat was so fast-paced and it was impressive how the band had bright stage lights and fascinating dance moves. The music contained catchy rhythms and beats. Some notes would stretch out to make a nice vocal sound and some were just quick beats from the drums. The staging was very flashy because they had different stage lights with different colors for each part of the story. The costumes were very well suited. They actors wore fancy suits and some had a fancy top hot to match their costume. I thought the the whole play went fairly well and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. The music was pleasant and relaxing, the actors were spot on with no mistakes during the show and the crowd was very enthusiastic. The only part I had a slight…

The piece was extremely clever how they only used four actors during the entire show. This brings me onto costumes. The costumes in this production were very bare and essential for quick changes while on stage, and this gave the play a comic feel because they changed on the stage in front of the audience. Many times the costume was a plain suit and the actors played different characters by simplistically putting so a hat, coat or a prop. I enjoyed this because it helped me associate different characters with the little bit of costume they had.…

In my opinion, the most successful aspect in this play was the actresses, not just because they were good, but rather because they were incredibly believable. I did not feel that I was watching actors on the stage, rather that I was watching the lives of the six individuals unfold. They became their characters. A perfect example of this can be seen when Sabrina Hyman, who was playing the part of Truvy, was decorating the salon for Christmas and had to improv. While placing tinsel on the couch she was unable to keep it on the desired spot, because it kept falling off of the arm. Initially when she realized that the tinsel was not staying in its place she did not panic, as one would have thought. Instead she simply tried again, and then even a third time without showing any signs of a problem, she had to finally walk away without properly placing the tinsel where it should have been. This quick change in events did not throw her off in the least; she played it off like nothing was wrong. She played it off, as Truvy Jones would have in real life. Although I did feel that the acting in the play was truly amazing I did have two problems, and a couple of instances where I was given a…

Overall, I thought the play was fantastic. I enjoyed the dark atmosphere that the director created that helped enhance the plot and mood of the play. I also appreciated the great deal of work and effort the actors had to put in, to present a play written in a different form of english. The actresses that played the witches did an excellent job portraying the insanity and mysterious values of the witches. I also thought the Porter did a great job, as he brought some much needed comic relief the play. To be quite honest, I can’t think of any characters that didn’t give a good performance. From what I saw, no characters messed up lines, cues or made errors that had an impact on the outcome of the play.…

I found the timing of this production was just right; however I thought the end of the play was somewhat dragged on, and could have ended earlier than it did. Although the homosexual scenes were rather disturbing, I would have to say they were my favourite scenes, because it was humorous, and extremely clever. The use of shadow puppets was extraordinary, and…

The actors did a great job at portraying their character the only problem that I had was that at sometimes it was just a little harder to understand what they were saying up on the stage from the back of the audience. The costumes that the main character had as well as all of the rest of the characters also helped portray their characters personality as well as the time setting and…

I attended the play on March 22nd. I have attended most of the plays here, at Waynesburg. Leading up to Professor Powers introducing the play and thanking the audience for their attendance, the audience seemed to be excited and engaged; talking about the various ways that the Addams family had enriched their lives. My friend and I had a seat in the middle in the center row, with an optimal viewing experience. The plays overall production concept such as the costumes, lighting and set added to the overall audience interaction, entertainment and understanding. The actors and the director did a good job of portraying the plays story, even to viewers who had no prior knowledge of the Addams family.…

I thought the actors were very well rehearsed and sung very well. A few times someone said a line a little to fast but otherwise everything was very believable. They all had microphones on so they were nice and loud but whoever was controlling the microphones could have used a little more practice because their voices would cut in and out and the audio person would turn the wrong person’s microphone on. They all had great choreography and gestures.…

As a performing arts major, you have to have a large repertoire of shows you have seen or have listened to. I have never seen any shows live, only on television or video cassettes. In New York, I finally got to lose my broadway virginity and was able to watch what a real broadway show looks like, and I couldn't have picked a better musical than Hairspray. This musical has one of the most imaginative set design, incredible and catchy music, and important messages.…
