Critical Anaylis of Paul Cezannes Work
This painting is called ‘still life with a basket of apples’. It was made between 1890 and 1894, this means it took Cezanne 4 years to produce; it is 23 3/8 by 31 inches. The artwork is of some apples in a basket and a bottle of wine. This is a scene that is not often come across as Cezanne has chosen his objects carefully so that the colours reflect off of the white cloth, even the folds have been chosen specifically to fit the piece. This piece of work was an observation painting as Cezanne set up his compositions according to his style. I think this is an observational painting because there is a lot of attention to detail that would not be there if it was painted from imagination. From the moment that you look at it, you know what it is as it is representational.
In this composition, we can see Cézannes painting technique is clearly recognisable, as it is different from many other artists, his work is characterised by his brush strokes; these can sometimes be repetitive , sensitive or exploratory depending on what Cezanne is painting. He uses a blocky form which gives the piece uniqueness and shows his signature style. The simple, natural colours show his emotions as being quite depressed and sad at this period of time. He uses a couple of shades of each colour and then builds on top.
This is a painting that has been created based on his unique painting techniques, to define shadows, blend tone and colour. Cezanne has layered the different colours to show the overlay of the paints. Cezanne has used harmonious colours in the apples, however he has also set up his piece by using complimentary colours of red and green in his basket by using these colours, you can see a separation in the piece; however it is unnoticeable as the colours mix

This is a Zen painting in the 13th century artwork by Mu-Ch’i Fa-Ch’ang. It was painted towards the end of the Song Dynasty. It is part of a handscroll with paintings of fruit and vegetables. The persimmons are done in ink alone. They are arranged in three groups-two, one, and three. They vary in size, their stems points towards different directions, and there is difference in tone or shade they are painted in. No two persimmons share the exact relationship yet there exist a pattern. In the row of five, the largest and the darkest in shade is in the middle, and the two lightest in shade are on the outsides.Yet, all the persimmons have no visible…

Analysis The art piece is representational, the lines are sharp and there are various and different shapes. The texture is smooth and there has been more than one colour that has been used in the painting. The tone shows that the sun is on him even though there is no sun shown in the portrait. Space and depth has been used as you can tell the objects are further away and the ones that are closer up and in detail.…

    Neoclassical Art Analysis

This masterpiece was created by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres in 1814 and is perfect example of Neoclassicism which was the revolt of the Rococo style of art. The artwork is placed in the Louvre Museum in Paris. This painting captures the image of an odalisque, which we refer to as a concubine. The painting depicts beautiful hues of blue, and a dark background and shadows which creates a seductive scenery while enhancing the curves and shapes of the model. With the contrast of light and dark colors, Ingres was able to achieve the illusion of depth. Ingres favored long sinuous lines which is show through the way he painted her elongated back. The volumes of the nude, bathed in an even light, are toned down in a space without depth (Louvre). I also like the details of his work, from the detailed headpiece, jewelry, feather duster and even the designs strategically placed on the curtains. Ingres was highly criticized for his art work and his paintings were unpopular due to others not understanding his…

Review of "Mt. Ste Victoire" by Paul Cezanne: Paul Cezzane's stunning work of art "Mt. Ste Victoire" is a remarkable painting that really captured my attention as I first glanced at it's dazzling imagery. The distinct style, colors, textures, and abstract qualites really characterize the overall feel and visual perspective of the artist. Cezanne's distinctive style is considered a link between various artistic movements, including Impressionism, Cubism, Fauvism, perhaps Expressionism, and certainly Abstract Art. The style depicted in this painting is very innovative and creative, especially the artist's illustrious use of angular brush strokes and color deepening to represent visual depth.…

The color palette of the painting is diverse, while red and warm earth tones dominate the painting. The light source seems to be in front of the left section of the picture while dispersing towards the right. The use of light gives the illusions of volume. The gradation of the sky is very exaggerated. The top is a dark blue and as it reaches the middle the sky is very light. The painting has a smooth finish and is very detailed. The flowers on the bottom are very intricate as well as the patterns of the people’s garments. Each face has a distinguished and unique appearance; no two faces are…

The objects, which are placed with great order and precision, show a great contrast between light and shadow, which throws the painting into darker tones. The objects are drawn to look so natural that one can assume that the artist most likely painted from life. I was curious if the objects he chose to paint were significant. Much care has gone into the placement and placing of the bowls of fruit and cup, which leads me to believe that most likely an equal amount of care went into deciding what to…

Jules Bastien-Lepage creates a realistic atmosphere, including a supernatural, religious-like presence within his painting. Oil on canvas was used to create the realistic quality of the work. By closely examining the artist's technique, it is clear that he uses delicate brush strokes in a true to life manner. The colors, and use of light seem to be painted in a layered fashion to give the landscape a sense of depth. The background of the painting is a garden which include foliage and brush that surrounds the primary focus of the painting, Joan of Arc. The artist put a great effort into the details of the scene. Bastien-Lepage uses a distinct realistic quality in his painting which is visible in each individual leaf and branch. Various hues of earth tones, green and brown being the most evident, are blended together in the garden scene.…

BEDROOM IN ARLES BY: VINCENT VAN GOGH The striking colors, unusual perspective and familiar subject matter create work that not only is among Van Gogh’s most popular but one of his personal favorites. He described this painting as great length in letters to his family. This painting is no less than 13 letters and as a result he gave simply his bedroom the simplification a grander style to things, it’s suggestive here of rest or of sleep in general, looking are the picture ought to rest the brain or rather the imagination. Walls are pale violet, floor is red tiles, the wood of the bed and chairs is yellow like butter, sheets and pillows very light greenish. The broad lines of furniture again must express inviolable rest. The pictures on walls and mirror, towels and cloths. The shadows and the cast shadows are suppressed…

Cézanne’s painting has no illusion of reality due to the easily detected brushwork, little sense of depth, and delineation of form. There is almost no three-dimensionality, an element crucial to the creation of illusion, whereas in Vecchio’s there are several elements that create an idea of reality, an idea that the scene before us is indeed happening: the strong light sources that apparently model the figures and other objects, the traceable vanishing point, which is almost impossible to detect in Cézanne’s Bathers, and the significant contrast between the darker and lighter areas. The density of the brushstrokes and the absence of details in Cézanne’s painting break the illusion of the visual effect created by the harmony of colours, whereas in the Bathing Nymphs there is no apparent trace of the brushwork.…

The sea symbolizes like a wall to the right and left of them. Behind of the people is the huge fire that separated between the crowd from the people behind them, the Egyptians. I also see some sheep and some bulls in the first row. It is impossible to distinguish between the animals and the people because of the blurriness. Moreover, the artist applies the paint very beautiful, for he combines the lightness and darkness, different colors that blended together and the sharp definition of the painting. The use of the light color stands out on the flame which captures my attention. It captures my attention because of the shaded area and the smoke that glows from the fire. The use of the dark color is on the sea and the same as in the sky. It looks like the setting of the painting happened during the night because of the darkness that covered the painting. The artist combines the dark and light color on the huge crowd and on the animals. It is like he is experimenting different colors and different shading on these crowds and on the animals. Field’s style of drawing was influenced by the constraints of photography in his day at…

I believe this painting shows a loss of identity. This is the reason I chose this as my favorite piece of art, because I can relate to it. There came a time in my life where I was struggling with my own identity. In today's world it is very significant to identify oneself with at least one thing (ones ethnicity, nationality, race, religion, or a particular belief). Many people still grapple with the notion of identity in many countries, regions, and various ways in order to fit or adapt into any environment (social, economic, cultural, political, etc). One’s identity determines ones position or situation in society wherever one lives. However, finding the right type of…
