Crested Butte-Personal Narrative
My feet ached as I passed through the automatic screen door to the snow filled Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport parking lot. The cool, crisp air stung my face, but my smile remained. Seven slow years have passed since I visited Crested Butte, Colorado, and I have been craving to return the moment I left. The towering mountains, blissful blue sky, and blinding white snow from the piercing sun makes Colorado a place like no other. I stood waiting on the icy concrete for my dad to pull around Baby Blue, a 1996 Chevrolet Astro van my family had nicknamed. My family visited Colorado in 2010, because my mom’s boss owns a timeshare condo, which included Baby Blue. He offered us a vacation to Crested Butte where we could have a free place to

In 2008 I moved to Bluffton to help start a new aluminum remelt facility called Alexin. I was one of three invited to make the move from western Kentucky by the presidents of Alexin because of my knowledge of the industry, my reputation as a hard worker, and my positive attitude. In the past nine years a lot has changed. Even though I know longer work in the aluminum industry, I still pride myself on my knowledge, reputation, and attitude. The job has changed, but what it takes to be successfully in any occupation has not.…

During my time in Colorado, I discovered that Estes Park is one of the most interesting tourist towns I have visited. During the week my youth group was in Colorado, we set one day aside to tour the city and the downtown area. All ten of us went to several ice cream shops and sampled ice cream of all varieties. After the ice cream, Abby and I checked out a saltwater taffy shop; the shop has used the same recipe for over one hundred years. Between breaks at shops to eat delicious food, we went into the souvenir shops and observed many things: t-shirts, hats, postcards and all kinds of key chains. Besides the mountains and the rivers, I have to say that the best attraction in Estes Park is the Stanley Hotel. The Stanley Hotel is commonly known as the hotel from Stephen King’s The Shining. Also, the filming of Dumb and Dumber took place at the Stanley Hotel. Our group toured a small section of the vast hotel, but the staff would not allow us to a full tour unless we paid a…

What would I say when I meet them? Would they still be the same? Would they remember me? All these thoughts had whirled around in my head on the ride to our hotel on Smoky Mountain. My parents and I were on our way to Smoky Mountain on a vacation with our friends from Canada. There were 3 adults who were Shital, Alex, and Jinal and 3 kids who were Alay (15 years old), Pearl (7 years old), and Sophie (6 years old). As the car screeched to a stop, I took a deep, shuddering breath and helped tote our bags inside. As soon as I stepped into the brightly lit hotel, my vision was suddenly obscured by a bunch of frizzy hair. It was my mom’s friend from Canada, Shital. She had sped across the room and squeezed me so tight, I felt as if my lungs were…

I concluded that there was some other way down, nevertheless there wasn’t.…

Back when I was a little girl, I remember the first time I went on a road trip with my family when I was six years old. The summer of 1993, the second weekend of July, our family started a journey. It was a Friday, thirty minutes past four o'clock in the afternoon when my dad, invited us all, my mom, my baby brother and me to go on a three-day vacation to my dad’s hometown. A place that my dad always told me was one of the warmest places on earth full of color and lovely people. It was the best experience I’ve ever had. We packed our bags in a very tight way so everything could fit in the small red stroller we had. I helped my mom to put my baby’s brother tiny clothes in a backpack and we hopped on the silver ford from the year 1954 my dad used to have. We hit the road and drove away.…
