Creative Writing: The Insane Room
Kakashi opened the door to your dull room, as usual, holding onto the door frame with what seemed to be an ever present smirk on his face. You looked over to him, hiding the growing blush on your face, not quite knowing what to expect from him; he was as unpredictable as the wind when he was like this. His other hand was behind his back and he looked like he was holding something, but you didn’t know what. His eyes stared at you hungrily, searching over every curve of your body and taking in how perfect he thought you were. The silence was broken by your phone vibrating. You pick it up and smile at the text you just got, but in the middle of typing a reply, Kakashi walks up to you and takes it right out of your hands. “What was that for?” You

My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

“Twenty years,” the old man named Peter mumbled silently with his navy-blue jacket on and an oak cane in hand. He hadn’t looked at the monstrosity in years. He stood for minutes at the cold entryway. As he walked through the iron gates, he glanced at the graves of his acquaintances.…

As I opened the door to the panic room, I realized something…I had opened the door to the panic room. A place that when entered should have been locked should've been sealed so that nothing less than a tank could get through the door. Something was definitely awry. I released the handle and my hand came away sticky. It was blood, who's I didn't know but the handle was coated in it. Now that the ash no longer clouded my vision I could see that the panic room was pristine as ever. The walls unlike their fellows outside in the hall, were crisp and colorless. All except for the maroon streak that crawled along the floor oozing from a sizzling wound in someone's leg.…

I looked at my mom, then at the seat next to her. Dad couldn’t come because of a meeting, but I didn’t care! I couldn’t hold myself together, I felt like I was going to explode into little sparkles of excitement. My excitement is about to burst out of my chest. I’m going on an airplane! Then I heard a horrendous sound like nails on a chalkboard, my body jerked forward, I smelt the metal nasty smell of blood, lastly darkness closed in on me, tight.…

I was unpacking my toothbrush in the bathroom when my daughter yelled, “Dad get over here! NOW.” I hurried over to see her looking at her phone. The holding cell was a bad place for a person like me. The only things to do was pick my nail beds sore or let my mind catch up to the mess I’ve created. John had been the only thing keeping me sane for some time, and I guess that was my own mistake. Never put all your money on one horse. A time ago he married the pretty smile, songbird singing, and domestic comfort. He didn’t know what he was getting into, but once he was invested, his kind heart didn’t have the guts to take it’s vows back.…

I felt expelled and exiled, sitting in a room filled only with a bed. White walls which painted no imagination, no hope just emptiness; yet they still assured me I was meant to be here. Every day was the same as the last, every memory I captured had slowly escaped. I was considered dangerous, vile and out of control; these words constantly surrounded me, swirling around in the echoes of the halls. 15 years I have been here, and still not once has my voice box being strained. Everyday new comers are filling the halls with recent experiences, these are the only colour these halls ever hold, the only colour we are ever able to grasp and use to paint our own ideas of community; they enable us oldies to once again imagine. Soon enough the halls go back to plain white and emotionless passages and so to do my imaginations, the images that i had held slowly fade over and over again until i am left with nothing. This only reminded me of what was familiar.…
