This is Barney. He’s a Randal. He lives with his family in Carrollton, Alaska. His friends, the little Randals, are planning one last adventure before everyone is forced to move. The first to arrive is Clint and he loves to dance. His favorite move is the “Chunky Monkey". Although his legs are slow to go, his stomach is always on the quest for the next delicious snack. Look out! Crashing through the window is Tito. He’s creative and brave. His inventions tend to get him in and out of trouble. Next time, use the front door! Little Randals can make a BIG mess, but Barney’s Mom would like the house clean before it’s torn down. Be careful with that, Clint. Stinger loves to talk so he’s excited to help translate for Rose who was invited over to…
When we reached the Blue Mountains, we were all faced with a big problem, the whole trail was covered in fallen trees and big bushes. And that wasn't the only problem, they were also pretty steep. For four days we spent cutting the bushes down, and moving all the fallen trees. On the fifth day we were finally able to travel up the hills, everyone made it up. The only thing that we had to watch was just to go slow and not to stop, and also to stay on the train because if you got off, you could fall down the wagon. We went one at a time and after a while everyone got up the steep hills. When we got to Whitman Mission, we felt pretty good, but really tired of traveling by wagon, and walking. We were looking forward to just getting to Oregon.…
It seemed like a flawless plan. Everything was set up perfectly as they headed toward the party on Route 13. They had taken every precaution necessary for a night of pure, unadulterated fun. Upon arrival, Seth and Jenna greeted their friends as they entered the room. Various beverages were freely available throughout the house. Everyone was doing it, so they joined in on the fun as well. Varied thoughts about the night flashed through Seth's head here and there, but who was he to stop now?…
I come from Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the most up and coming cities in America. My town is a beautiful, flourishing area with a lot to offer to a variety of people. With such diversification, we have not integrated our neighborhoods, schools, or the social scene nearly enough. Communities can become racially prevalent leading to separations in culture and heritage. I can see this in the high schools throughout the area during our football games or competitions which is depriving to everyone involved. Leaving people unaware of their surroundings creates a bubble of ignorance. Mallard creek provides so much culture as it is is zoned for so many areas, however, other schools are not provided the opportunity I am. As the severance continues,…
The Getty Villa, located in Pacific Palisades, is by far the museum that resonates with me the most. From the artwork to the building itself, I’m in love. I went with a childhood friend of mine because I had an extra ticket and I coerced him to join me. The tickets were free, but the parking was fifteen dollars; a very fair price in my opinion.…
To travel down the Oregon Trail, we travelled in horse drawn wagons and had oxen’s pulling carts of supplies. I like other pioneer families left my home with my worldly possessions that I could afford to carry. We faced being robbed at gunpoint by highway men on the trail. Another danger faced by the female pioneers and the wagon train were…
Mrs. Sarah Coats-Myles was a heart-filled teacher. She loved and cared about her students. She was gentle and kind to me and my fellow classmates. Mrs. Myles always wanted to see the best in me. When I was down, she would always be there to make me smile again. She would always compliment me and my classmates and always say “old fast tail girl.”…
The road proved sufficient as the wagons had moved on it with zero trouble and mad it to the North end of Donner Hill. They had cut the road around the North end of Donner Hill and met the “donners” tracks on the south bank of Emigration Creek. As they came around the bend, Salt Lake came into view for everybody. But the group had to backtrack about a mile to avoid marshes and very tall grass at the intersection of parleys, Emigration, and Red Butte Creeks.…
We reach the Dalles before getting the Oregon City. Here we have to Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. We have barely any food left, every animal is near done, and people in our wagon train are starting to get sick. We are also low on money, but we have to pay a toll to go on the Barlow Road. We do not have enough money to pay for this because we need at least a little bit of money to start, so we have to get them to compromise, maybe pay $1.50 and give them one of our nice pans and something that Larry bought from the blacksmith shop. It took some convincing, but they gave in and we got through. Barlow Road is really rough and bumpy. It is knocking our things around and hurting our feet. Our feet are badly, badly blistered. It is so narrow that our wagon barely fits. We cannot walk next to our wagon, we have to either walk…
I was unpacking my toothbrush in the bathroom when my daughter yelled, “Dad get over here! NOW.” I hurried over to see her looking at her phone. I read what she was looking at and I completely regretted buying this house. I should have known by the broken windows and the weeds that covered the fence and door.…
The crumbling leaves swayed, as the winter air crashed against his home. Walking towards his farm, William became uncomfortably aware of his surroundings. He grew up in this town, spending his days working and adventuring in every niche of the area. For an eighteen year old, his journey of life was monotonous. He endeavoured to peregrinate and advance his life- but his next journey was one that caused a nauseous, yet prideful feeling in the pit of his stomach.…
Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

A few years ago, My school took a trip to Washington, D.C. We got to visit many historical monuments that were even more breathtaking in person, but the experience at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will forever be embedded in my mind.…
