Creative Writing: The Dalles Today
We reached The Dalles today. This is our last stop to Oregon city and this is going to be the most dangerous part of the whole trip. We have to take the Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. On top of that, everyone is getting sick and have no energy to move the wagon and walk up the steep hill and walking through the narrow paths are hard because we can't walk on the side to hold the wagon up. The oxen are getting too tired to walk anywhere and the other families with mules keep stopping and that makes us run behind on schedule. Many people are dying because they have worked too much and haven't gotten enough sleep. When we

When we reached the Blue Mountains, we were all faced with a big problem, the whole trail was covered in fallen trees and big bushes. And that wasn't the only problem, they were also pretty steep. For four days we spent cutting the bushes down, and moving all the fallen trees. On the fifth day we were finally able to travel up the hills, everyone made it up. The only thing that we had to watch was just to go slow and not to stop, and also to stay on the train because if you got off, you could fall down the wagon. We went one at a time and after a while everyone got up the steep hills. When we got to Whitman Mission, we felt pretty good, but really tired of traveling by wagon, and walking. We were looking forward to just getting to Oregon.…

I come from Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the most up and coming cities in America. My town is a beautiful, flourishing area with a lot to offer to a variety of people. With such diversification, we have not integrated our neighborhoods, schools, or the social scene nearly enough. Communities can become racially prevalent leading to separations in culture and heritage. I can see this in the high schools throughout the area during our football games or competitions which is depriving to everyone involved. Leaving people unaware of their surroundings creates a bubble of ignorance. Mallard creek provides so much culture as it is is zoned for so many areas, however, other schools are not provided the opportunity I am. As the severance continues,…

The Getty Villa, located in Pacific Palisades, is by far the museum that resonates with me the most. From the artwork to the building itself, I’m in love. I went with a childhood friend of mine because I had an extra ticket and I coerced him to join me. The tickets were free, but the parking was fifteen dollars; a very fair price in my opinion.…

To travel down the Oregon Trail, we travelled in horse drawn wagons and had oxen’s pulling carts of supplies. I like other pioneer families left my home with my worldly possessions that I could afford to carry. We faced being robbed at gunpoint by highway men on the trail. Another danger faced by the female pioneers and the wagon train were…

The road proved sufficient as the wagons had moved on it with zero trouble and mad it to the North end of Donner Hill. They had cut the road around the North end of Donner Hill and met the “donners” tracks on the south bank of Emigration Creek. As they came around the bend, Salt Lake came into view for everybody. But the group had to backtrack about a mile to avoid marshes and very tall grass at the intersection of parleys, Emigration, and Red Butte Creeks.…

We reach the Dalles before getting the Oregon City. Here we have to Barlow Road around Mt. Hood. We have barely any food left, every animal is near done, and people in our wagon train are starting to get sick. We are also low on money, but we have to pay a toll to go on the Barlow Road. We do not have enough money to pay for this because we need at least a little bit of money to start, so we have to get them to compromise, maybe pay $1.50 and give them one of our nice pans and something that Larry bought from the blacksmith shop. It took some convincing, but they gave in and we got through. Barlow Road is really rough and bumpy. It is knocking our things around and hurting our feet. Our feet are badly, badly blistered. It is so narrow that our wagon barely fits. We cannot walk next to our wagon, we have to either walk…

Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…
