Creative Writing: Prototype 17
Prototype 17, also known as Joey, had been created for a purpose. A purpose she has yet to discover. Her creator had a unique idea in mind, which no one had thought of before. He was an interesting man. His mind, as vast as the universe that he lived in, supplied him with endless ideas. But only one did he attempt to develop. He continually struggled to create the perfect Chimera, but each time he failed to do so. His inventions just didn’t serve the purpose he was aiming for. However, he never gave up on his dreams! That is, until one fateful day. Soon after he started work on his 17th project, something horrible occurred. It all happened within a matter of days; the disappearance of the humans. The air on earth had changed. Something caused the oxygen on our planet to become poisonous. No one knew how this happened, and no one ever found out. At least, not up until now.
It is quite peculiar how the toxic air only disposed of humans. All other life has been thriving ever since. Sometime in the near future, one creature will eventually learn the secrets that the world has been holding captive in the dark.
Joey opened her lavender eyes. They adjusted to the dim lighting that shone through a few dusty windows. She slowly

In the place where her right arm should be, she positioned a metal limb with talons. She wanted to make something simple so she wouldn’t get too confused while in the process of making it. Next, she situated the artificial wing that she made proportionate to her other wing. This one was made with leather, and the same metal used for her front limb. Then she finally added the missing touch, her long, curvy metallic tail, also made with the same exact metal as the other two products. She used the same materials for everything, as they were strong and plentiful in the workspace. She would need to be careful, though. The metal that she had chosen rusts easily when

My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

A sharp wail cut through the silence of Woodbridge Mental Hospital. A nurse immediately rushed towards the far end of the hallway, her footsteps echoing off the walls of the hospital. As she approached the door of the patient’s ward, she heard equipment crashing to the floor and shattering. She fished out her cell phone and dialed a number.…

We have explored a variety of writing styles with food as the central theme throughout. My first essay was an ode to steak, which took you through all the senses from the hint of smell to the first savory bite. The second essay was a deconstruction of meatballs and how my first true cooking experience came about. Next was an essay on the adventures of Chinese cuisine and the garlic phenomenon. The last essay was to capture and critique a moment shared with lobster. I am proud of all my essays. If I must choose a favorite; then I select “No Ordinary Meatballs”. The essays on steak, Chinese cuisine, and lobster were all experience-based accounts. These were unique accounts, which were sought out, in one form or another. However, my meatballs…

“Twenty years,” the old man named Peter mumbled silently with his navy-blue jacket on and an oak cane in hand. He hadn’t looked at the monstrosity in years. He stood for minutes at the cold entryway. As he walked through the iron gates, he glanced at the graves of his acquaintances.…

The fields were cleared, and the mules were working hard now to clear the fields for planting. It was almost noon, time to eat. They were tired, and they wanted there nosebags, filled with sweet, crunchy grain and oats. Almost time now. They were at the end of the row, and next to it, the chain tree. The chain tree was welcomed to the mules, as it meant they would get a rest. They would be chained up to it, eat, and rest for a few hours, and then go back to work, just as rested as the moment they woke up in the morning.…

How could he just treat us all like we were cattle as if it was nothing? The speedometer crept up to 60 miles per hour. Didn’t he care that people everywhere were starving? How could he do this? When he was elected he promised that he would Make America Great Again. 70 miles per hour. I had to get to the rally. We needed change, we could be that change. 80 miles per hour. My thoughts were interrupted as my eyes caught the reflecting glow of red and blue lights paint the night sky behind me. Crap. I pulled over and turned off the car, ready to feed the officer behind me a great line about how my grandmother was on her death bed and wanted me and only me to be at her side. My eyes shifted and glanced to the side mirror, the officer straightened out his already tucked in uniform and smoothed his hands over his hair as he made his way from his cruiser. Great, I thought. I wonder how many reprimands this stiff is gonna write me up for. My record already had 14 points on it for picketing, 6 more and I’d be in real trouble. He knocked on the window…
