This course is part of my prerequisites to apply to the nursing program, but I am hoping to learn more about human

“I can’t believe I’m doing this” I mutter into my wooly scarf. It’s 4 o’clock in the afternoon and the weather reads ten degrees Fahrenheit. I shift my weight and try to get into a more comfortable squatting position as the rocks dig into my boots. I look around; it’s a rather dreary day with no clouds in sight. I scribble in a notepad. Five minutes in and my hands are numb.…

“Katelyn you're up!” I heard my lanky redheaded coach Kevin screech. I slid on my batting gloves that were caked in dirt, and tightened my helmet that was meant for a 8 year old. I felt a tingling sensation rush through my body, I knew that I was going to do something great. It was the top of the 4th and we were down by two, already down a player so our outfield had to work vigorously to make sure not even a sickly hit could get past them. I could see Kenzie, a short stocky girl, with a bright pink helmet get ready to sprint to 2nd. As I got up to bat I felt the tingling sensation continue to grow, scared out of my mind that I would strike out and end the inning, I stepped up to bat.…

In Marcia Aldrich’s short story ‘Hair’, she used one of the most defining aspects of our physical appearance to show how the efforts to tame our hair reflect upon the construct of our identity. This is evident in the line: “But don’t you think hair should reflect who you are?” (p. 55). Throughout the story, the obsession (or the lack thereof) of the characters does reflect upon them in many interesting ways.…

I just finished my volleyball game, and my team won, I walked outside the gym to see my best friend standing there telling me I did awesome, we hugged said goodbye to each other and I left for home. I looked at my IPhone 3GS and read the most devastating text I had ever received from my best friend, “Taylor, you need to change who you are, no one likes you…” This text lengthened and explained how come no one liked me. Throughout my entire life, reading and writing has always been a major aspect of my learning journey. Starting all the way back to elementary school, I was introduced to basic concepts of reading and writing in all different types of ways. Every type of method a teacher would have us do had its own way of getting the technique or point across to the class in a way that the class could understand and retain it. I continue to learn new things about reading and writing today as I advance in my college career. As we progress in our lives, sometimes it is smart, and also fun, to look back at some of the times when you were learning those things and see how far you have come from those times. Not only do I want to look back at those times, but also I want to really think about how those times have gotten me to where I’m at today.…
