Creative Writing: All Quiet On The Western Front
“Twenty years,” the old man named Peter mumbled silently with his navy-blue jacket on and an oak cane in hand. He hadn’t looked at the monstrosity in years. He stood for minutes at the cold entryway. As he walked through the iron gates, he glanced at the graves of his acquaintances.
He went to the barracks, where the inmates had slept. He opened the doors of the barracks and took his first step into the inner regions. Suddenly, a chill went down his spine. He could see three ghostlike figures: two guards, each holding a rifle, dragging a young boy. The old man only watched. With his last breath, the boy whispered, “Bye,” as he was dragged away. The man stumbled after them, but the boy and the guards had vanished.
He made his way onwards past the gas chambers. Then, from behind him, he heard a voice, “Victor . . . Karajan.”

Peter then started walking towards the kitchen. Peter opened the door quickly. When he opened the door, he could see hundreds of ghostly figures all looking at him. That instant, Peter started to run. Their cries echoed his name behind him, their icy hands reaching towards him.
Then, he saw a door marked with letters spelling “To Hell” across the camp. Peter quickly opened and slammed the steel door behind him. The ghostly voices outside stopped, but from the depths of the chamber, he could hear soft moans. Peter knew he couldn’t stop now. Slowly, step after step, still listening to the sounds of the moans, he made his way down the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs, he saw an unlit lamp lying on the ground. Peter quickly lit it, illuminating the room. The words “Nazi Medizinische Experimente” were still legibly painted on the

Peter slammed his office door and ruptured another splinter on its face like the thousands that plagued it. His shaky hands fixed three locks across the door that jarred into their familiar cradles. He dragged his chair through the cracked grooves in the floorboards and collapsed into it with a sigh. The paperwork on his desk was minimal. It was the nightmare garden he tended to every night once the children were dreaming, and his wife curled against her own skin, embraced by icy cotton sheets. After what felt like hours the tortured groan of the heavy iron door announced the arrival of an unknown guest. As the man walked in the room he turned and smiled at us causing me to scoff within Alice’s mind; “I hear that you’ve been hearing voices” the man asked in a sickly sweet tone. “Kill him” i sneer in the most sinister way and with a slight nod of the head my corrupted little puppet jumped at him tearing at the flesh of his meaty neck with her sharp little teeth causing him to stumble to the ground as he sputtered violently on the crimson liquid that spilt down his convulsing body. Alice then began playing with the man’s pulsing laceration as if a toddler were playing with their food while giggling manically. Only to be halted by a pair of hands wrapping around our body and violently throwing us across the cell all I could hear were the grotesque cracks as each bone broke and Alice’s sweet screams of pain as she is kicked across the room until she was nothing but a whimpering heap in the corner. “Die” the tall man screamed as he picked Alice up by the legs and slammed us against the cold walls of the cell with a sickening crack causing one final screech of pain from Alice to ricochet through the vile halls of the prison as she slumped to the ground with black oozing from her terrified eyes and her mouth that was left…

I used all my force, but the captain still had the ability to hold us back as greatly as we pushed. My thoughts were returning, slowly, my depression evolved into a nostalgia of the past, convincing me to try to depart home. Some took longer than I did, and I noticed how disconsolate they actually were. Even when they didn’t want to leave, they had the most morose looks in their eyes, glistening with the tears of the people trapped inside the hollow body taken from them.…

It seemed like I was wandering into a different dimension. My senses were becoming acquainted to new feelings: guttural whispers, excruciating odour, ponderous glass-like air and the cemented, pungent, taste of death! As I opened the door candlelight rose to greet me but who lit them? I was informed that the secluded house I was purchasing has been unoccupied forever.…

Cautiously walked I towards the grand old mansion, where I read the name aloud 'Beacon Hall'. The vulgar and vile house had the look of an old run down Gothic church with arched stained glass windows. The doors and windows reminded me of a church I once visited called 'El Monumental' in Barcelona. I breathed in deeply smelling wet oak wood reminding me of winter fires and roasting chestnuts. The area was in an old abandoned town by the forest and the old lake, as I went into the house the door creaked open suddenly as if swept by some unseen shadow of a figure. As I ascended through the main archway into the main house, I was me by the sweet smell of fresh baking but, at the same time something deeper like rotting flesh was hidden under the pleasant aroma as if the house itself was human.…

I could faintly hear laughing and singing coming from the camp fire. The closer I got to the barrier, the more nervous I became. What if they don’t want me back? What if everyone hates me? Now I stood directly in front of the entrance to camp. Just as I was about to walk through I broke down. “I can’t do this! I can’t go back, no one wants me here!” I screamed as I collapsed to the ground with tears streaming down my faces. I couldn’t hold myself together, I have had enough. I curled up into a ball and began to shake. After that everything went kind of fuzzy. I remember a voice calling out my name. Then a pair of muscular arms wrapped around my body and cradled me. I’m pretty sure I was brought back to cabin. After that everything went…

After that incident, the next day left no traces of what had occurred the following night. He went out and enjoyed himself, until he thought about going home. He wandered around until midnight until he thought what he was doing was crazy. He went into his room, not seeing the mysterious figure, but afraid that somehow he still lingered in the room. That night was hard: he did not sleep well and kept waking up to images and noises.…
