The Crack Of Dawn.....By Dean Fearon Walking, out of the door, I saw the moon in the distance. Harmlessly, I stood there sobbing the moon, was glistening as bright as the sun would and It was so luminous I could see the reflection of myself and the monstrous red creature in the shadows of the snowy woods. I couldn’t think straight as the scenes of people being murdered replayed over and over in my dismayed head, and the sounds of dogs howling as they were searching for us, the meant to be perished people that had escaped that cerebral place.…

The daily scream therapy of my neighbour in the shower does not fail to act as an alarm clock every morning. This daily “alarm clock” was a good enough reason to not succumb into the pressure of calling the police. The rhythmic sound of everyone’s steps outside gave birth to the gravel, small as peas which moved beneath their feet and from it a faint dust rose, the perfume of the town. This perfume I had to get used to now, this perfume I will smell for the years to come. This foreign town was now my new home, away from all the sadness, unfulfilled relationships and the past, a town full of versatile people, some doctors, some painters, some chocolatiers and some farmers, all with big houses towering over them. A town still rich with bicycles and kids playing in the streets early in the morning, the streets filled with the aroma of bread this all felt very new to me, I was a city dweller, this made me feel great unease.…

-Think creatively – Try not to use the first idea that comes into your head from a stimulus because chances are other people will have that same idea. If you are really stuck for ideas try changing time periods, set it in the future or the past, or a different country. Writing is an art form created by past experiences, future hopes, fantasies, and limitless imagination. It brings feelings, knowledge, adventure, mystery, and foreign times and places to life. Writing can be very personal, remedial, cathartic, and affect you in ways that could change your life forever. Lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, sensing the minutes tick by for what seemed like the hundredth night in a row; Cassie knew the feeling well. Every few minutes or so her eyes would flick over to the glowing red numbers as they crawled towards the time her alarm would go off, signalling a new day. The demonic red numbers switched to 3:00 am; the time for sleep fell to four hours. Cassie forced an inhale, and then breathed out slowly. It had been hours since she had persuaded herself to lie down in bed, yet her mind was still reeling from the day previous. It wasn’t as if anything spectacular had happened. Those sorts of events seemed to save themselves until Cassie was already at a breaking point. Today had been just another in a series…

Ernest lay in bed, laboriously breathing with turpentine and olive oil painted onto his throat for the war had not been good to him and the Spanish Flu was spreading like wildfire among the people in New York. Mother was sitting in a chair with frozen tears upon her pale cheeks, a deep red cascading from her wrists and flowing between her fingers. Her mouth was slightly ajar as though she wanted to say something. But desperation had silenced her forevermore and every voice she had was sewn together. My own mouth was slightly ajar, a thickness of silence and despair too suffocating to handle. I waded helplessly through it with a deep red set about my hands as they touched the cheeks of my eldest brother. His body had become pale, deathly…

They blinked once. Twice. Three times. And still, the gray walls did not metamorphose into the equally unfamiliar golden blades of grass. Memories dotted her consciousness. Rough hands, heaving her on cold tables. Sharp pricks of pain embedding themselves in her legs, her sides, and her soft belly. All at once, something brought the lumbering wolf to her unsteady paws with a start. The voices flooded her ears, blanketing all of her senses and sending every fur shooting up along her spine. They were here, in this cage. Sure enough, when she breathed in, it was them she smelled. The sickening odor coated her lungs. It was heaved back out immediately, the wild wolf gagging at its taste. Something of acid and stone and blood. As she looked around, however, she found no sign of them in the flesh. Just the evidence they left behind.…

Sounds of men pulling potatoes out of the ground filled the air as the children ran around our huts like birds that filled the area. The sun gleamed in our faces while we watered the plants, our faces burned to ashes, while at night our only protection from the freezing, desert night weather was the dirt on the ground. A forbidden trail was on the west side of the country. Rumours say that the road may contain monsters, evil spirits and no end. Every man or woman who entered this area was never seen again. Screams were heard from the forests, accompanied by cracking of eggs. This is told to be the dragon’s egg cracking to attack the helpless victims of curiosity.…
